Ciprian was extremely professional throughout the entire process and delivered a high-quality mix for my song, Slow Surrender. He made my project a priority and completed everything on time without compromising on quality.

What I appreciated most was his willingness to listen carefully to my ideas and feedback while also offering valuable advice that genuinely improved the final result. Communication was always clear, friendly, and efficient, and he was patient with every revision I requested.

Interview with Ciprian Nicusor Mistreanu

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: I work closely with artists from the early stages of a record through the final master. Whether it's a single or an EP, my goal is to deliver a professional sound that enhances the artist's vision rather than changing it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My EP

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: A mix of both. Analogue gives the sound, but digital gives you clarity

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Collaboration and the opportunity to be creative.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: What do you mix on? On Kali IN 8.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That production is beatmaking.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What's the vision? What's the feeling?

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: neve 1073, 1176, La-2a, Pultec, U87

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I started with music production and gradually became more involved in recording, mixing, and mastering. Learning how each stage affects the final record helped me develop a more complete approach to working with artists. I’ve been producing and engineering music for over five years, continually refining my sound through hands-on projects and collaboration.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: My style combines atmospheric detail with strong rhythm and movement. I like leaving enough space for the vocals to lead, while using punchy drums, textures, automation, and subtle changes to keep the record evolving. I’m drawn to the intimacy of Finneas’ productions and the rhythm and unpredictability of Timbaland’s work.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Use automation to add movement, energy, and variation, helping your track feel more dynamic and alive.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: My strongest skill is working with vocals and placing them naturally within the mix. I focus on clarity, emotion, presence, and making sure the performance remains the centre of the record.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I bring a fresh perspective, attention to detail, and a strong focus on the emotion of the song. My goal is to create clarity, depth, and impact while preserving the artist’s identity and making sure every element supports the record as a whole.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: Listening always comes first. I start with the rough mix and any reference tracks to understand the artist’s vision, the song's emotion, and which elements should lead the record. From there, I build the mix around what matters most. In many cases that begins with the vocals, but sometimes the drums, bass, melody, or atmosphere become the foundation. I don’t force every song through the same process; the approach changes depending on what best supports the music and brings the artist’s vision to life.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: Self-made acoustic treatment, a Klark Teknik 1176-style compressor, a Focusrite 8i6 and Kali Audio IN8 as my main audio monitors.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I really admire Finneas O'Connell's ability to create intimate, emotionally driven productions, while Timbaland's creativity and signature approach to rhythm and groove remind me to keep experimenting and pushing ideas further.
