Interview with Julien Lee
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Jesse Will. Terrific singer-songwriter, heartfelt and soulful voice. collaborated with him a couple of times in recording and concerts.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: To be honest with you, it really is analog. you can feel the miniscule of difference in your touch and breath, the air, the room, and your heartbeat!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll make nothing less than excellency and heartfelt. and i’ll make sure to work on the track til you also feel it in your heart and bones.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: the people. i love to work with people and to catalyse new ideas. and of course to create beauty and knowing that my work is gonna make someone feel something
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: i have been trained as a professional classical pianist since I was 6. I rebeled against it and moved out of Hong Kong and went to film school when i turned 18. After traveling around the world I went back the conservatoire. and now i’m living in london, with all the drama that i learned and the lands that i marches and hearts that i have broken and integrate it in my music. i play piano improvisation concerts across london and produces music and write songs.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Billie Eillish and Finneas. Their melancholia. and the honesty is incomparable. Of course, the very smart song writing and the perfection of production. Rare to have musicians can bring such a personal and intimate insight and alternative style into mainstream stream pop music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: trust your gut. avoid second guessing your intuition. if your ear tells you it sounds good, then it sounds good. if your heart tells you it needs a crescendo there, then yes you need that.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: classical improvisation and cinematic music, as well deep house and pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: piano improvisation, literally i can develop anything into a beautiful flower.
