Interview with LYOZ

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of was working with an emerging artist from Medellín on a debut EP. I served as co-producer, arranger, and recording engineer. Together, we crafted songs that blended traditional Latin sounds with modern production, helping the artist find a unique voice in a crowded market. The project received positive feedback for its authentic vibe and high-quality production, which made me proud of the creative and technical work we achieved

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m working on several projects, including producing and co-writing songs for emerging Latin pop and urban artists. I’m also focusing on refining my own material and experimenting with new sounds and production techniques to keep evolving creatively.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, there are several talented professionals on SoundBetter that I respect and would confidently recommend, depending on the project's needs. It’s important to find collaborators who share your artistic vision and maintain high-quality standards. If you want, I can suggest specific engineers, mixers, or session musicians who I’ve worked with or whose work I admire

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have their strengths, and I like to combine them when possible. Analog brings warmth, depth, and a certain unpredictability that adds character to a track—especially in vocals, synths, or summing. Digital, on the other hand, offers precision, flexibility, and speed, which are essential for modern workflows. I use digital tools for their efficiency, but I always try to incorporate analog elements to give the production a more organic and emotional feel

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to treat every project with the same care and passion as if it were my own. I commit to listening deeply, staying true to your artistic vision, and delivering high-quality results at every stage of the process—from composition to final production. Your music deserves to be heard at its best, and I’m here to make sure of that

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most about my job is helping artists turn something personal into something powerful. Being part of that creative journey—from the first idea to the final mix—is incredibly rewarding. I love seeing how a simple melody or lyric can evolve into a song that truly connects with people

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: One of the most common questions I get is: 'Can you help me bring my idea to life even if it’s just a rough voice note or lyrics?' My answer is: Absolutely. That’s one of my favorite parts of the process—helping artists shape their ideas from the very beginning. Whether it’s a melody, a chord progression, or just a concept, I work closely with them to develop it into a full, professional production that reflects their vision.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: One of the biggest misconceptions is that music producers just 'make beats' or handle the technical side only. In reality, a good producer is deeply involved in the creative process—from shaping the emotional arc of a song to guiding performance, arrangement, and sonic identity. It’s not just about sound, it’s about storytelling and helping the artist realize their full potential

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask questions like: What’s the story or emotion you want to express through this project? Do you have reference tracks or artists you admire sonically? What stage is your song or idea currently in—just a demo, lyrics, or more developed? What’s your timeline and budget? How involved do you want to be during the production process? These questions help me understand their vision, expectations, and how I can best support the project

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be clear about your artistic vision, but stay open to creative input. A good collaboration is built on trust, communication, and shared goals. Don’t focus only on technical skills—choose someone who understands your sound, respects your process, and is genuinely invested in bringing your music to life

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I had to choose just 5 pieces of gear, I’d go with: My acoustic guitar – always the best tool to compose and connect emotionally. A laptop with Ableton Live – my go-to DAW for producing and sketching ideas. Universal Audio Apollo Twin X – reliable interface with clean conversion and built-in DSP. A Neumann U87 mic – versatile and perfect for capturing vocals or acoustic instruments. A pair of Sennheiser HD 660S2 headphones – detailed enough for mixing even without monitors. Hopefully, there’s electricity and Wi-Fi on that island too xd

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been working in music for over 8 years. I started as a songwriter and performer, then studied music production formally at EAS in Medellín. Since then, I’ve collaborated with artists across Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile—composing, producing, and recording in both home studios and professional environments. Now based in Montevideo, I continue to work closely with artists, helping them shape their sound from the ground up

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style blends emotional storytelling with modern production. I focus on creating rich, organic textures mixed with contemporary sounds, always aiming to highlight the artist’s identity. Whether it’s a stripped-down acoustic vibe or a more layered arrangement, I strive for clarity, depth, and intention in every element.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like Jorge Drexler. Drexler for his lyrical depth and musical storytelling—his songs feel intimate yet universal.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: One of my top tips is: always start by serving the song. No matter how advanced your gear or plugins are, the emotion and message should lead every production decision. Simplicity often brings more impact—if something doesn’t add to the feeling, it probably takes away from it

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on a wide range of genres, but I specialize in Latin pop, Folk, indie, urban, and singer-songwriter styles

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is the ability to connect the creative and technical sides of music production. I can shape a song from its initial idea to a fully produced track, always keeping the artist’s identity and emotion at the core. Whether it's songwriting, arrangement, or sonic direction, I know how to bring a cohesive and professional result.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a blend of musicality, technical expertise, and artistic sensitivity. As a producer and songwriter, I focus on enhancing the emotional impact of a song—whether through compelling arrangements, unique sound textures, or helping the artist find their authentic voice. I also bring a deep understanding of the entire production process, ensuring the song not only sounds great but also connects with its intended audience

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process starts with understanding the client’s artistic vision and goals. From there, I support them through the composition and pre-production phases—whether it's co-writing, arranging, or developing the sound identity of the project. Once the direction is clear, I handle the recording process with high-end gear to ensure the best audio quality. Finally, I guide the project through editing, mixing, and, when needed, coordinate mastering to deliver a professional and polished result.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: It’s a small home studio, fully equipped with high-end gear to deliver top-quality recordings

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Toby Tobon, Jairo Sanz, James Bay

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I provide consulting services on the composition and production aspects of their music projects.
