Interview with Hugo (Asleep)

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Always working on new beats, vocal productions, and audio for short films. I love keeping my workflow active and exploring new ideas weekly.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both have their value, but I mostly use digital for flexibility, cost-efficiency, and mobility — especially in independent settings.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I’ll treat your project with as much care as my own. I’ll listen, communicate, and make sure you feel proud of the final result.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Turning ideas into emotion. The moment when a client listens to the final version and says: “That’s exactly what I imagined.”

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: “Can you make it sound more like X artist?” — Yes, I can draw inspiration, but I’ll always bring originality to make your track yours.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That producing a song is just pressing buttons or using templates. True production means listening, understanding, and building a unique sonic world from scratch.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What do you want your audience to feel? Do you have references or artists you admire? What is your goal with this project?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Be honest about your vision — even if it’s vague. I’m here to help shape it, but I need to feel where you want to go emotionally and artistically.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My laptop, Logic Pro, a MIDI controller, a DT 770 headphones, an AKG C414 XLS microphone and the Soundtoys plugin bundle.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I’ve been producing independently since 2017 under my label Offresssh Records. It started as a creative outlet and grew into a professional path through constant learning, collaborations and personal projects.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Emotional and intimate pop, with rich textures and ambient layers. But I’m versatile — I can adapt to trap, EDM or reggaetón depending on the project’s needs.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Jacob Collier or James Arthur — because they both blend strong emotional delivery with rich musicality. Also, The Chainsmokers and Martin Garrix for their energetic yet melodic approach.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Don’t overproduce. Leave space. Silence can be just as powerful as a snare or synth — emotional contrast is what makes a track unforgettable.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Emotional pop, alternative R&B, indie, lo-fi, trap, reggaetón experimental, etc. but I love projects that explore new territories.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Translating abstract ideas into concrete sound. Whether it’s a feeling, a mood or a story — I can shape it into something musical and meaningful.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Intimacy, emotion and storytelling. I try to make the listener feel something — whether it’s a sad melody, a cinematic soundscape or a bouncy pop hook. I aim for songs that connect on a deeper level.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I start by understanding your artistic vision and references. Then I work on the structure, sound palette and emotional tone. I send drafts along the way, always open to feedback. I stay in close communication until you’re 100% satisfied.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I work from a fully equipped home studio — treated space, professional monitoring, and top-tier plugins. When needed, I have access to external professional studios thanks to my trusted network of collaborators.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: I produce full custom songs and beats, mix and master tracks, and create sound design for short films or digital content. My focus is always on building a unique, emotional sound that fits the artist’s or director’s vision.
