Interview with ABOMINVTION
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my favorite projects was producing a full Phonk instrumental with VHS textures and distorted vocals that blew up on my YouTube channel. I handled everything — from the beat, mix, sound design, to the visual vibe. It helped define my signature sound and connected me with artists who really get the underground aesthetic.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on a dark Phonk EP with heavy Memphis influence, plus some custom beats for independent artists who want something raw and original. I'm also expanding my YouTube content to showcase more behind-the-scenes production and beat breakdowns.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m still new to the SoundBetter network, but I’m open to collaborations and building connections with professionals who respect underground sound and authentic artistry.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for workflow, analog for soul. I mostly work digital for flexibility and speed, but I always aim to replicate analog warmth and dirt using plugins, saturation, and texture layering. The best sound comes from blending both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll deliver music that feels real — not generic, not soulless. I’ll listen to your vision, stay true to the vibe, and give 110% to make your track sound unique and unforgettable.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning emotion into sound. There's something powerful about capturing a vibe — whether it's dark, nostalgic, or aggressive — and turning it into something that hits people deep. Also, connecting with artists around the world is always inspiring.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you make a beat in the style of [insert artist]?” A: “Do you mix and master as well?” A: Sure “Can you work from a vocal idea I send you?” A: Sure
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That underground music is easy to make. Crafting raw, dirty, emotional beats with true vibe and personality takes time and intention. Simplicity doesn’t mean lack of depth.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: – What’s the mood or story behind the track? – Any reference songs or artists you want the vibe to match? – Is there a deadline? – Do you need just the beat, or full production/mix/mastering? – Any specific instruments, samples, or sounds you want me to use or avoid?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear about the vibe you're going for — references, moods, energy. I’m here to translate your vision into sound, but the more we connect on the feeling, the better the result. Also, trust the process — underground sound isn’t always clean, and that’s the point.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop with FL Studio Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface A MIDI keyboard (Akai MPK Mini) A solar charger — because beats don’t stop just because you’re stranded 🌴
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making beats out of pure passion — experimenting with FL Studio and uploading tracks to YouTube. Over time, I developed a unique style influenced by underground culture, Phonk, and nostalgic textures. I’ve been producing seriously for a few years now, constantly refining my sound and working with independent artists who want something real.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Dark. Nostalgic. Experimental. Think distorted 808s, VHS textures, and emotional undertones. A mix between modern underground and raw vintage energy.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with $uicideboy$, Ghostemane, or Night Lovell — artists who aren’t afraid to blend darkness, emotion, and raw aggression. They embrace unconventional sounds, and I feel like my production would complement their vision perfectly.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on the vibe first. Technical perfection means nothing if the beat doesn’t make people feel something. A dusty sample, a gritty 808, or the right amount of distortion can create more emotion than a polished mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Phonk, Lofi Hip-Hop, Trap, Experimental, and underground styles. I also enjoy working on darker subgenres and distorted aesthetics.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creating mood. I know how to build beats and mixes that feel something — not just sound clean. Texture, energy, and atmosphere are everything to me.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Authenticity, darkness, nostalgia, and grit. My sound is influenced by raw 90s Memphis phonk, lofi textures, and modern experimental energy. I bring edge and soul to every project.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the client’s vision, vibe, and reference sounds. Then I build the beat or production from scratch — focusing on texture, emotion, and rhythm. I deliver a first version, get feedback, and refine it with revisions if needed. Communication is key.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is intentionally minimal and optimized for creativity. I use FL Studio as my main DAW, along with a MIDI keyboard, Edifier headphones, and audio monitors. I rely on a mix of analog-inspired plugins and digital tools to craft raw textures, VHS-style atmospheres, and punchy drums. It’s not about gear — it’s about how you use it.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jason Rich, Roland Jones, Berrymane, Kloudbug, Soudiere, DJ Yung Vamp
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly produce custom beats in styles like Phonk, Lofi, and experimental Trap. Clients often come to me for dark, emotional, gritty soundscapes with raw energy. I also provide mixing and mastering to help their tracks hit harder while keeping that underground texture intact.
