Mix / Mastering Engineer

Tyler Polson on SoundBetter

I help artists and bands transform raw recordings into professional, release-ready productions that sound at home next to today’s best records. I specialize in Pop, Rock/Metal, and EDM.

I’m here to take your rough recordings and turn them into mixes that hit. Ones you’d be proud to see next to major releases on your playlist.

With a music scholarship in Recording Technology, strong training in voice and theory, and years building and polishing my own productions, I bring more than plugin know-how. I care about emotional dynamics, clarity, and that feeling you get when everything locks in — from delicate vocals to heavy drums or lush synths.

What I’ll Do for Your Track:
* Sculpt every part of the mix so vocals / melodies sit where they belong; drums hit with energy without overpowering everything else; low end that’s powerful, clean, and controlled.
* Use reference tracks you love; I’ll match tonality, balance, and dynamic feel so your mix feels like it belongs in playlists, not buried in headphones or a small speaker.
* Add polish: FX design, automation, stereo field work, saturation, reverb tastefully — all tailored to your vision.
* Unlimited revisions

Genres I Excel In:
Rock & Metal · EDM (House, Dubstep, UK Garage etc.) · Pop · Singer-Songwriter

Format & Process:
* You send your raw stems (.wav / .aif etc.), you share your reference tracks + goals.
* I work remotely, using Pro Tools + top plugins (UAD analog emulations, FabFilter, Valhalla, Soundtoys, Melodyne, etc.).
* Typical turnaround: ~7 days.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Tyler Polson

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog circuits kept in a digital house. While I mix in the box, every single channel and bus in my mixes has analog emulation plugins, usually multiple. You can't match the harmonics introduced in the circuitry of a Pultec EQ or Fairchild 670. The American ear is trained to love the sound of classic analog gear.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: You'll walk away with a mix you're proud to release. We'll keep working until it's perfect.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That we're a bunch of bedroom beat makers. Technology has allowed anyone with a computer to do this, but I'm a classically trained musician with a deep understanding of acoustics and advanced recording techniques. More importantly though I have good ears.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What do you hope to achieve from your mix that isn't landing like you want it to? What reference track do you want this song to sound most like? How much creative liberty are you comfortable with me taking?

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Throw a compressor sidechained to the dry vocal after your reverb on an aux track. This way the reverb ducks and doesn't crowd the vocal when it's going and kicks in right at the tail creating more clarity.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Rock/Metal, EDM, Pop

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: An ear for resonant frequencies and masking issues. Mixes that translate to any speakers or headphones.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: The number one thing is balance, both with instruments and overall tone. I'm diligent about cleanup at the track level and continue to refine the tone of each instrument to fit comfortably in it's own pocket. My mixes sound big and crisp with deep controlled low end, warm and natural mids, and hi's that sparkle. The dynamics will be evolving and controlled and the master will be loud.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: We'll setup an intro call or communicate via email, whatsApp, or text. I'll typically ask for a link to listen to your current track. I can tell you pretty quickly if I can help elevate your mix and how. I'll send you instructions of how to send the stems. If everything sounds good I'll start mixing your track upon receipt of the initial payment. You can typically expect your mix back within 7 days. After that I'm happy to do any revisions you desire to make it perfect.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I'm an in-the-box mixer, meaning most all of my work is done in Pro Tools. I have a fully tuned room and headphone setup. For production I have a Roland V-Drum kit, a Native Instruments Kontrol S49 MK3, Warm U87, AKG D112, and many other mics and instruments. My most used gear are plugins like FabFilter suite (Q4, L2, C2, Saturn), UAD 1176's, Fairchild 670, SSL G-Bus Compressor, Melodyne, Oxford Inflator, and hundreds more.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Most of my work is taking a client’s raw multi-track recording and turning it into a polished, release-ready mix. That usually means cleaning up tracks, dialing in punchy drums, powerful low-end, clear vocals, and balancing everything so the song translates on any system — from earbuds to big speakers. I often add subtle production touches (automation, effects, layering) that give the mix more energy and impact, so the final master feels competitive with major releases.
