Interview with Marcus Singletary

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently mixed a tune for an Afribeat artist, and an 8-minute epic for an indie band that was influenced by both Sade and Joni Mitchell.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Music.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Marcus Singletary.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I have both types of gear, and some analog modelers in the digital realm. Personally, I prefer digital, as it's cleaner and more modern sounding. Although I'm big into the sounds of the '60s and '70s, I'm OK with adding any sonic elements into the mix that are seen as "contemporary" or "new."

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I get the job done.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love all aspects of the creative process.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Production and post-production are challenging, but most people outside of the industry believe they take very little time to complete.

  16. A: Tell me more about your project, and what you're looking to have done.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Make contact. I'm easy to work with.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Computer, Pre-Amp, Guitar, Microphone, Drum Machine (in lieu of being able to bring an entire drum kit.) I don't need to bring a bass. I can process the guitar to sound like one.
