Interview with Zach Rivet

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I do not have a particular style. On the side I am a drummer in a rock band. I then make Disney sounding orchestral pieces. I myself am still developing my style but I do pride myself on my versatility.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Hyper-fixation, If I need to get something done. I will get it done.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: My process begins by thoroughly listening to the track I’ll be working with—away from any instrument. I repeat this step multiple times until I’ve internalized the piece. Only then do I sit at the piano to sketch ideas that I feel best support the emotional and structural essence of the song. This creative clarity tends to come more naturally after 20 to 30 focused listens. The same approach applies to film scoring. I watch the scene several times, immersing myself in the perspective of the characters. Understanding their emotional state allows me to compose music that authentically reflects and enhances their experience.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: There are quite a few, if I had to discuss one it would be Hans Zimmer. He is considered the best for a reason. The soundscapes he is able to produce are like no other. His versatility amazes me, how he is able to go from The Lion King to Batman to Interstellar. I aspire to get to that level.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Typically, I provide lush strings to accompany guitar, piano, vocals, etc. On occasion, I compose much more grand, cinematic passages for films or personal projects. I love doing both
