Interview with Lil-B Records
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I mixed a track for a well-known artist in my country. The client loved how I brought the emotion out of his vocal and made the track feel alive.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m mixing a few Afrobeat and Trap tracks for clients and preparing a personal project with artists from my team.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not at the moment, but I'm open to collaborations and making connections.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I use a hybrid setup. Digital gives precision and speed, analog gives warmth and depth.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat every project like it’s my own and deliver top-quality results, every time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing the final result and seeing the artist happy. It’s a powerful feeling.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They often ask how long it takes. I usually say: "Quality first, but I work fast most mixes are done in 1-3 days."
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think mixing is just adding effects fix everything or create miracles. In reality, it’s about emotion, balance, with a good recording. and making a song connect with listeners. That’s why I always advise my clients to record with a quality mic, preamp, and in a good acoustic environment.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask about their reference tracks, their goal for the song, and if they have specific vocal or mix preferences.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens to your vision and communicates well. A good mix is a collaboration.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My MacBook, Audio Interface, Headphones, a trusted mic, and a hard drive with all my plugins and samples.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing and mixing for over 10 years. I’ve worked with many artists in my country and internationally.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern, punchy, clean, and emotional. I blend clarity with creativity.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lil Wayne. His voice is unique—neither fully rapped nor sung—and I’ve always wanted to bring out the best in a vocal like his. I’d also love to work with Rema for his vibe and creativity.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always gain stage before mixing. Clean levels make everything easier and clearer in the end.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on Afrobeat, Trap, and Drill. Those genres fit my style and energy
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal mixing. I know how to make vocals sit perfectly in the beat while keeping their character and emotion.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, energy, and vibe. I make sure the mix translates emotionally and sonically on all systems.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by listening carefully to the rough mix and artist's vision. Then I clean up the audio, balance levels, process vocals, and finalize the sound with creative effects and dynamics.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use a hybrid setup with both digital tools and physical gear. That gives me flexibility and a warm, professional sound for every project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by producers like Metro Boomin and Pheelz. Their sound design and creative mixing techniques push the limits of modern music.

A: I mostly mix vocals and full tracks, especially in Afrobeat, Trap, and Drill. Many clients come to me for clean, punchy mixes that bring their vocals forward.
