Interview with Tre kirk
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with artists like Ne-Yo, Musiq Soulchild, SiR, Anderson Paak and Saba. They each bring a timeless blend of soul, storytelling, and emotional honesty to their music—qualities I deeply resonate with as a songwriter. I’m drawn to artists who value lyrics that speak from the heart and melodies that linger. Collaborating with them would allow me to contribute meaningful, well-crafted songs that connect with listeners on a real level. My writing style aligns well with their sound—sincere, soulful, and intentional.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: While I’m not a producer, I’ve worked closely with many—and one tip I’ve learned is to always leave space for the vocal to shine. A well-written song needs a mix that supports, not competes with, the emotion in the lyrics and melody. Simplicity often leaves the strongest impact.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on music that speaks to me really, it needs to connect. music isn't just operating on the surface level , I believe its spiritual.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is turning raw emotion into powerful, relatable songs—often in the moment. I craft strong hooks, layered harmonies, and lyrics that feel both personal and universal. I adapt easily to different genres and artist visions, making collaboration smooth and creative. Above all, I bring heart, consistency, and originality to every project.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotion, structure, and soul. Every song I work on starts with a deep connection to the feeling or message behind it—I don’t just write lyrics, I bring stories to life. I know how to create memorable melodies, hooks that stick, and harmonies that give a song depth and fullness. I’m also great at listening to an artist’s idea and elevating it, whether it’s finishing a half-written verse or shaping a full record from scratch. My goal is always to make sure the song sounds complete, feels authentic, and resonates with listeners. I write with heart, I write with intention, and I always bring my best.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My songwriting process is both intuitive and structured. I often start by channeling the emotion or concept in the moment—whether it's a melody, a phrase, or a vibe—and lay it down right away to capture the raw energy. From there, I build out the full song: refining lyrics, crafting harmonies, and shaping the structure to serve the artist’s vision. I’m able to write daily and work efficiently with deadlines, always making sure the final product feels authentic, polished, and emotionally honest. Whether you have a rough idea that needs development or want something written from scratch, I meet you where you are—and bring the song to life from there.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is fully equipped for high-quality songwriting and vocal production. I use a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface paired with an AKG P120 condenser microphone, which delivers clear, detailed vocal recordings ideal for demos and guide tracks. For monitoring, I rely on M-Audio studio monitors, giving me accurate playback to fine-tune melodies, harmonies, and overall song dynamics. My setup is built for efficiency and clarity—perfect for delivering polished work, whether it’s full song compositions, hooks, or vocal arrangements.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by artists and producers who combine emotion with precision—people like Music Soulchild, Ne-yo, SIR, J. Cole, Frank Ocean, Terrace Martin and The-Dream. They know how to tell stories that feel personal yet universal, which is something I aim for in every song I write. I’m also drawn to producers like 40 (Noah Shebib) and the Alchemist —the way they build sonic space around an artist’s message pushes me to write lyrics and melodies that don’t just fill a track, but breathe with it. Whether it’s a stripped-down ballad or an energetic anthem ,you name it. I’m constantly inspired by music that connects deeply and leaves room for vulnerability.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in writing emotionally resonant songs—whether it’s full lyrics, hooks, or finishing incomplete ideas. Most of my clients come to me when they’re stuck on a track and need someone to bring clarity, emotion, and structure to their music. I help artists translate raw feelings into polished songs that sound authentic and hit the right emotional tone. Whether it’s a melodic chorus for a rapper, layered harmonies for an R&B vocalist, or complete topline writing, I deliver compositions that feel honest, relatable, and ready for the studio. I treat every project like it's personal—because to me, music always is.
