Interview with Jtyime
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Right now, I’ve mainly worked on music for one artist — RiCardO SiNopiA — handling everything from beat production and vocal melodies to arranging, lyric writing, and mixing. I’ve built a workflow around bringing gospel-centered ideas to life from scratch. While I’m just starting to work with others, I’m fully committed to giving each song my all and treating every project with purpose and care.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m proud of is my first EP, which I produced entirely on my own—from writing and arranging to mixing and mastering. Although it was secular music and I’ve since deleted it, that experience showed me I’m capable of so much with the gifts God has given me. That project taught me there’s more to unlock—more that God wants to reveal to me as I continue this journey. It reminded me that with Him as my number one key, I can do things I never imagined possible. It’s a reminder of growth, faith, and the promise of what’s ahead.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m working on Isolation, the debut EP for gospel artist RiCardO SiNopiA. It’s a powerful, faith-filled project that I’m proud to be producing. Every song is rooted in truth and crafted to glorify God, and we’re really letting the Spirit lead the sound. The EP is coming soon, and it’s been a blessing to be part of something so purposeful. I’m also continuing to create my own gospel instrumentals and content, always building, learning, and keeping God at the center of it all.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Since I’m just starting out on SoundBetter, I don’t personally know many providers yet. But I’m open to discovering talented people here and learning from them as I grow. My focus right now is on delivering the best I can for my clients with dedication and faith. As I build my network, I hope to connect with others who share the same passion and professionalism.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Definitely digital—because I work straight out the box with my DAWs and gear. But honestly, I make the most of digital tools to craft my sound. It gives me flexibility, speed, and the ability to experiment without limits. I’m all about using what I have to create something powerful and authentic, no matter the format.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to every client is that I will bring my whole heart, my best skills, and my faith into every project. I’m committed to delivering music that honors God, reflects your vision, and connects deeply with listeners. I take my work seriously, and I expect the same from those I work with. That means clear, respectful communication from start to finish, meeting agreed deadlines, and maintaining professionalism throughout the process. Even though I’m still growing and learning, I promise to work with dedication, prayer, and patience—making sure your message is clear and powerful. When you work with me, you’re not just hiring a producer; you’re partnering with someone who cares deeply about the purpose behind the sound and respects the business side of this craft.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about what I do is knowing that I’m creating something that can truly impact someone’s life—not just emotionally, but spiritually. When I’m building a beat, writing a melody, or mixing a vocal, I feel like I’m partnering with God to make something meaningful. It’s not just about music to me—it’s ministry. I love the moments when I’m in the room alone with God, just creating, and I know His presence is there. If even one person hears something I made and feels His love, healing, or truth, then it was worth it. That’s what I live for.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Since I’m still early in my journey, I haven’t been asked a ton of questions yet—but the few I do hear often are things like: • “Can you work within my budget?” • “Can you help bring my vision to life even if I don’t have everything figured out?” • “Can you mix and master too?” And my answer is always: Yes—with prayer, patience, and purpose. I’m flexible with budget because I understand what it’s like to start from the bottom. I’m willing to work with you whether your idea is fully formed or just a voice memo and a prayer. And I do offer mixing and mastering because I believe in delivering something polished that still carries the rawness and truth of your message. At the end of the day, I’m here to serve—through sound, skill, and spirit.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions about what I do is that gospel or Christian music has to follow what’s trendy or sound like what’s already out there. I’m not chasing the charts or trying to copy anyone—I’m focused on creating the sound that the Lord places on my heart. I know my production leans a little old school at times, and I’m okay with that. I believe God can use any sound, any style, to reach people. My goal is to make music that carries His presence—where someone can hear it and feel God, feel love, feel pain, feel healing… everything that Jtyime stands for. This isn’t about popularity—it’s about purpose.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Even though I’m still building experience, I like to ask questions that help me understand the heart behind the music. For example: • What message are you trying to share through this song? • Is this for ministry, personal testimony, or a specific project like an album or church event? • Do you already have a rough idea—like lyrics, melody, or vibe—or are we building from scratch? • What emotions or Scriptures are you trying to reflect in the track? • Are there any references or artists you’d compare the feel to? To me, it’s not just about sound—it’s about purpose. The more I understand the why behind a song, the better I can help shape the how.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you’re looking to hire someone like me, I’d say: come with vision, but also be open to how God might shape it. I care deeply about the message and the heart behind a song—not just the sound. So be ready to communicate what the song means to you, and I’ll do my best to bring it to life with excellence and prayer. I may not have all the industry credits yet, but I give everything I have to every project, because this isn’t just music to me—it’s ministry. I also understand that not everyone has a big budget, especially when you’re starting out. I’m flexible and willing to work with people who are serious and sincere about the message. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about the purpose behind the sound, I’d love to work with you.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were on a desert island, I’d bring: 1. My laptop – loaded with Reason, Pro Tools, Studio One… gotta stay ready. 2. Komplete MIDI controller – for laying down melodies, chords, and ideas fast. 3. Presonus Studio 1824C interface – clean, reliable, and connects everything. 4. My mic (Presonus PD-70) – perfect for vocals, clear and dependable. 5. A Bible – because without the Word, I’m not creating with purpose. Even if I had all the gear in the world, none of it matters if I’m not connected to God first. That’s where the true inspiration comes from.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been involved with music my whole life—playing drums from an early age, then piano, and singing in church. I got into production in 2013 and, like many others, I’ve had my share of ups and downs along the way, including seasons of discouragement. In 2019, I graduated from the Audio Institute of America, which helped me develop my technical skills and take things more seriously. Since recommitting my life to Christ, I’ve been fully focused on growing and using my musical gifts to glorify God.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is deeply rooted in gospel music but flexible enough to flow with whatever the Lord leads me to create. I blend soulful melodies, smooth raspy vocals, and passionate, conviction-driven rap verses. Whether it’s a worship ballad, an upbeat praise track, or a heartfelt testimony, my sound always carries sincerity and purpose. I aim to deliver music that connects emotionally and spiritually, inviting listeners into a space of reflection, encouragement, and faith.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists who are passionate about using their music to glorify God and minister to others. But whether that happens or not, I find my purpose in doing this solely for Him. I’m committed to being faithful with the gifts God has given me, trusting that He will open doors according to His plan. My main goal is to create music that honors God and touches people’s hearts, regardless of who I get to work with.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One music production tip I always keep in mind is to make space in the mix, so the message and vocals can truly shine. I focus on carving out space by carefully EQ’ing instruments and using panning to give each element its own place, ensuring the vocals come through clearly without being overpowered. But above all, the most important part of my process is prayer—I always seek God’s inspiration and guidance before and during production. Without that spiritual connection, the music wouldn’t have the heart and purpose it needs.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on gospel music—but that can take many forms. From soulful worship to gospel-inspired trap, R&B-infused praise, or raw testimony tracks, I let the message lead the music. Sometimes it’s traditional, sometimes it’s modern and melodic, but it’s always Christ-centered and filled with purpose. Every song I work on is created to glorify God and point people to Jesus. I don’t make secular music or work outside the Kingdom—I believe in using my gifts only for the Lord. As Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters.” My sound is for the One who gave it to me.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is crafting chord progressions and melodies that carry emotion and direction. Whether I’m on the keys or building from scratch in Reason, I naturally hear where the music wants to go. I can sit with a progression and feel the tone of the message—whether it needs to be worshipful, intense, or reflective. I also have a strong sense for vocal arrangement. Even if I’m just mumbling melodies or cadences during the creative process, I can already hear how a verse or hook should sit—how it should rise, fall, or hit emotionally. That early foundation helps guide the full arrangement and gives the song structure and soul. I believe that’s where a lot of the power in my production comes from.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring heart, depth, and intentionality to every song I work on. My goal isn’t just to make something that sounds good—but something that means something. Whether I’m building a beat, playing guitar or bass, recording vocals, or mixing the final version, I always approach it with the mindset: “What is God saying through this?” Musically, I bring a blend of soulful melodies, gritty gospel textures, and dynamic rhythm. Vocally, I bring smooth, raspy tones or passionate, aggressive energy depending on what the song needs. I also bring structure and atmosphere—making sure the track has space for the message to land. I want people to feel something when they hear it—conviction, encouragement, or healing. Even with limited experience, I give everything I have to each song, because I know it might be the one that reaches someone at the right moment.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process starts with prayer and seeking direction from God, because I don’t just make music—I serve with it. From there, I usually begin producing in Reason Studio. Sometimes I start with a melody or chords, other times it’s a drum pattern that inspires the rest. I build the track layer by layer, often adding live bass or electric guitar to give it more soul and depth. Once the instrumental is complete, I move into either Pro Tools or Studio One for mixing and mastering. If I’m recording vocals—whether it’s a hook, verse, or tag—I use my PD-70 or Shure SM57, depending on the tone I’m going for. I pay close attention to detail during vocal processing, making sure the message is clear and the emotion comes through. I may not have a big team yet, but I approach every track with care, passion, and excellence—trusting that God will use it exactly how He wants.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is based in my bedroom, where it’s just God and I creating with focus and intention. I primarily work in Reason Studio for beat production because it’s where I feel the most creative, and I handle mixing and mastering in Pro Tools and Studio One depending on the project. My gear includes a Presonus Studio 1824C audio interface, Shure SM57 and Presonus PD-70 mics, AKG 240 headphones, KRK Rokit 5 and JBL monitors, a Komplete MIDI controller, and an Akai MIDI Mix for hands-on control. I also play a Squier 4-string bass and electric guitar when the track calls for it. Even though I don’t have the most expensive gear, I truly believe in getting the best out of what I have. I’ve learned how to make it work—and sound good—through consistency, prayer, and passion. I mostly work remotely right now, which fits well with my setup, and I’m open to collaborating with artists who share the same heart and hunger for meaningful music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My biggest inspirations come from gospel producers like Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Baby Dubb—who’s known for his work with Mary Mary and Deitrick Haddon—and J. Drew Sheard. These producers showed me how powerful gospel music can be when it’s creative, soulful, and Spirit-led. I’ve also been influenced by producers like Timbaland and Kanye West for their bold sound design and innovative approach to music. And as someone learning the full craft, I really admire mix engineers like Jimmy Douglass. Overall, I’m inspired by anyone who uses their gift with purpose—especially within gospel music.
