Interview with Suzie
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Slow Motion Picture/End Scene. What we do together brings me unprecedented happiness.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: About to work on tracks for an album with my songwriter.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Brian Caesar.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Digital is easier and more accessible but there is a rawness to analog that might be preferred.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Together we will make something to be proud of because I will do what it takes to bring your vision to life.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everyday is something new.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: Can you create something to compliment the main idea. A: Let’s find out! 😉
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it’s easy.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you hear? What are you looking for? What’s your vision?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you have something in mind, I can bring it to life for you, and be open to it changing because together we might create something totally different from what you originally had in mind.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My viola. My iPhone - has a voice memo app and my iTunes collection. A speaker. A pencil. A journal to jot down ideas.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out when I was 11 years old. I worked really hard, went to school for music education and then got a masters in performance. I have been a teacher for over 20 years while simultaneously maintaining performance opportunities as they presented themselves. 30+ years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A classically trained violist with a modern rock twist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Lady Gaga. Everything she does is so inventive, fresh, creative, and alive. I have seen her Jazz and Piano show in Vegas a couple of times and would give anything to be a part of that big band in addition to being on her current music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The creative process happens well when everyone works together and is open to changing what is necessary for the greater good of the project.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Indie rock for recordings. I am in a semi-pro orchestra for fun.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ear training.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring my training/background as a professional musician. I bring a layer to a song that the writer didn’t necessarily know was missing, as well as making their vision a reality.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to what the song writer/ creator wants and bring it to life.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in my office/ studio. Just me and my microphone.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love anything from Mozart to Brahms to Incubus, Sting, George Michael, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Morrissey, Lana del Rey, to my Queen Lady Gaga.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am a classically trained viola/violin player who not only does traditional rep but is also involved in an indie rock project.
