Interview with Asep Bagja

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Building my music portfolio.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: For me, it doesn't matter. If it sounds good then I will use it.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: People often think I'm a DJ, because I mostly produce electronic tracks. I don't have skill for DJ-ing.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: A MacBook Pro with DAW and soft synth, a midi controller, a studio headphone, an audio interface, and a studio monitor.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: The client gives me the brief description of the project. Then, I will ask the track reference (if it's not included in the brief). I will start making a draft of the track and I'll ask the feedback before finishing it. Typically I will ask 2-3 times of the feedback before finishing the final version.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: - Korg Kross 2 88 keys as my master keyboard and playing piano. - Arturia MiniLab 3 to control my DAW: Ableton Live & Logic Pro. It depends on the project. - Arturia MicroFreak and small modular synth. - Arturia V Collection and Arturia Pigments as an additional soft synth. For producing, I tend to use soft synth more than the hardware synth. It's more convenient.
