Interview with Seth Tackaberry
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Producing and performing the live show for Holly Humberstone opening for Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour in Wembley Stadium.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I am finishing production on several EPs for some independent artists based in the UK, as well as producing the live show for Cian Ducrot and gearing up to produce another album cycle with Holly Humberstone.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: My most frequent question is in regards to cost - I am always willing to discuss budgets to get your dream song made. The amount of time I estimate it will take for me will factor into the cost but in my opinion music should not be paywalled.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sort of artists inspire you? Where do you see this song going? What do you like about any of the artists that I have worked with, that you might like to hear in your own music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I am here to serve your vision but I will always offer guidance if you would like it. I do my best work when a song is written but there is no production yet. I can create a full and finished song around just one demo vocal, even if it's recorded into an iPhone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I trained at the Royal Academy of Music since I was 14. I was focusing on jazz bass in my studies and making pop music in my bedroom during my downtime. I started touring while still at college with high level instrumental acts such as Cory Wong. I moved from there into musical direction for pop artists, which combines production and live performance. This was a natural step into the world of production with many of the artists that I have been touring and performing with.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Founded in good songwriting and strong instrumental parts, with a taste for pop sensibility. Topped with a layer of unique sound design and sonic world-building.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop music including indie pop, electro pop, dance, disco and house, to folk, acoustic and intimate singer-songwriter music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am deeply comfortable and fluent on a number of instruments to a high standard and can arrange sounds together to quickly create a very full sounding mix.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My extensive experience of working firsthand with some of the top artists in the modern pop industry, combined with my high level training and decade plus of touring experience, allow me to fully realise a song from conception to release, at every stage of the process from writing, to recording and performing, to producing and mixing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I focus on elevating the song to the highest standard possible. I will flesh out instrumental tracks using my experience as a session musician and create a sonic world for each song around those foundation tracks. I will use my knowledge and experience working with some of the most respected artists in the industry to make sure every element of the song hits as is necessary. I mix as I produce so it will always sound at industry standard quality right from the beginning.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Full song productions, mixing, vocal editing, sound design/additional production, and multi-instrumental session work including bass, piano/keys/synths, guitar (electric and acoustic).
