Interview with Respuesta Al Impulso
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: We haven’t connected with many people yet, but we’re always open to collaborating and learning from other talented professionals on SoundBetter. When we find great partners, we’ll be happy to recommend them to our clients.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: We appreciate both analog and digital tools because each brings something special to the table. Analog gear adds warmth and character, while digital offers precision and flexibility. Combining both lets us get the best of both worlds and tailor the sound to the artist’s vision.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Our promise is to treat every project with care, respect, and dedication. We commit to bringing out the best in your music, communicating clearly, and making sure you’re happy with the final result. Your vision is our priority, and we’ll work with you until it feels just right.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about this job is helping artists bring their vision to life. It’s incredibly rewarding to take raw recordings and shape them into songs that connect with people emotionally and creatively. Every project is a new story, and being part of that journey is what keeps us passionate.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that mixing and mastering are just about making things louder or “sound good.” In reality, it’s about storytelling—shaping the music so it connects emotionally and communicates the artist’s true intent.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: We ask about your musical style, your main influences, and what you want to achieve with the mix or master. We also like to know if you have any reference tracks, specific sounds or moods you’re aiming for, and your timeline or deadlines. Understanding your vision helps us deliver exactly what you need.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take your time to find someone who really listens to your vision and understands your style. Good communication is key—don’t hesitate to share references, give feedback, and ask questions. A great provider will collaborate with you to bring out the best in your music, not just deliver a “finished” track.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If we were stranded on a desert island, we’d bring a trusty mic to capture the island’s vibes, an interface to keep things digital, headphones to stay in the zone, a DAW for all the magic, and of course, some speakers to party with the crabs. Gotta keep the creativity alive—even with coconuts!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Respuesta al Impulso has been working for around two years. We’re two passionate sound engineers who decided to join forces to help artists bring their music to life through mixing and mastering. It’s been an exciting journey of learning, growing, and creating with musicians from different countries.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Our style is all about balance—combining technical precision with warmth and emotion. We focus on making mixes that feel natural and dynamic, where every element has its space but the overall sound stays powerful and engaging.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: We’d love to work with artists like Men I Trust, Mac DeMarco, or King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard because they have such unique sounds and creative approaches. Their music is full of personality and emotion, and helping bring that to life would be an amazing experience.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on creating space in your mix—make sure each instrument has its own frequency range and place in the stereo field. This helps everything sound clear and balanced, letting the song breathe and the important parts shine.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: We usually work on indie, rock, and pop projects, but we’re always excited to explore new sounds. Lately, we’ve been looking to take on heavier projects like metal, and we’re also open to hip-hop—anything with a strong identity and creative intention inspires us
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Our strongest skill is understanding the artist’s vision and translating it into a polished, expressive mix. We’re good at listening—not just to the music, but to what the artist wants to communicate—and shaping the sound to reflect that intention with clarity and emotion.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: We bring clarity, depth, and emotion to every song. Our goal is to highlight what makes each track unique, helping the artist’s vision shine through while making sure the mix connects with listeners both technically and emotionally.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Our process usually starts with editing and organizing the session to make sure everything is clean and ready for mixing. Then we move on to the mix itself—balancing levels, shaping tones, and adding creative touches. After that, we send a first version, gather feedback, and make revisions if needed. Once everything feels right, we move on to mastering and prepare the final files for release.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Our studio is a cozy and focused space designed for critical listening and creativity. We work with a combination of digital tools and analog processes to get the best out of every mix and master. More than gear, what defines our setup is how we use it—with attention to detail, musicality, and care for every track we work on.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We’re inspired by artists and producers who blend creativity with unique sonic identity—like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Men I Trust, Mac DeMarco, and others who aren’t afraid to explore textures and push boundaries. We love working with music that feels honest, raw, and imaginative.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of our work focuses on mixing and mastering full songs—whether it’s singles, EPs, or albums. We help indie, rock, pop, and hip-hop artists shape their sound, making sure their music is polished, powerful, and ready for release on all platforms.
