Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Both! I love the hybrid approach. Digital gives us absolute precision, speed, and recallability, which is essential for a smooth remote workflow. But to give a mix that special glue, warmth, and harmonic depth, especially for guitars and drums, you need that analog flavor. That’s why I rely on top-tier emulations from UAD, SSL, and Softube to get the best of both worlds.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: My promise is that we will work on your songs for as long as it takes to get them perfect. I don't believe in rushed jobs or cutting corners. A song is a piece of art, and it's only finished when you are 100% happy with how it sounds. We are a team, and I will keep tweaking, balancing, and polishing until the track matches the exact vision you have in your head.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I like to say that my job is about removing the dust from a treasure. The artists have already done the hard work of creating the magic and the emotion. I love being the person who cleans up the sonic clutter, sharpens the focus, and makes that hidden treasure shine so the rest of the world can see, and hear, how beautiful it truly is.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: The biggest misconception is that having the latest plugins instantly makes someone a great engineer. Plugins are just tools; they don't replace an educated ear, years of experience, or deep musical knowledge. Anyone can buy the same software, but knowing why to use a specific compressor on a blues vocal, or how to sculpt the low-end of a heavy metal track so it punches without clogging the mix, that takes an engineer's ear. The magic is in the listener’s response, not the software!

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: I always ask for three things to get started: First, a rough mix or demo so I can hear where the song stands right now. Second, 2–3 commercial reference tracks that you absolutely love, helps us speak the same musical language from day one. Finally, I’d love to hear the story and the vibe behind the song. Knowing what inspired the track and the emotion you want to convey helps me make the right artistic decisions during the mix.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Make sure your tracks are well-recorded, properly named and edited before exporting. A clean session means I can spend 100% of my time and energy on making your song sound huge and emotional. Of course, I will gladly handle any necessary cleaning and fixing as part of my workflow, but the less time we spend repairing background noise, the more we can focus on the artistic magic.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: Easy choice! I'd bring my wife, my dog, my Mac, my Apollo interface, and a barrel of whiskey. My wife and dog provide the ultimate good vibes, the whiskey keeps the creativity flowing, and with the Mac and Apollo, I have a world-class hybrid studio right there on the beach. Give me a solar panel for power, and I can mix and master the finest Rock and Blues tracks from anywhere in the world, even a desert island!

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: Music has been in my DNA since day one. I started playing drums at 12, learning the ropes in my school’s analog studio and running live PA sound. After a 20-year hiatus from age 18 to 38, during which I built a successful career in the automotive industry, I felt the undeniable pull back to my musical roots. I bought a drum kit again, upgraded my gear, and realized my true calling was in the studio. To back up my lifelong musical intuition with top-tier modern technical knowledge, I attended the HOFA College in 2021 to study audio engineering. I’ve been mixing and mastering professionally since then. My background as a drummer, combined with early analog experience and the precision I brought from the corporate world, gives me a unique edge. I mix with my ears and heart, keeping the focus entirely on the groove and the natural energy of the track.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I’d describe my style as punchy, organic, and driven by the emotion of the track. I aim for a modern, competitive sound, but I refuse to crush the life and dynamics out of a song. My goal is simply to enhance the natural energy you recorded.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Keep your technical stats clean and protect your headroom: 48kHz / 24-bit is all you need, and please, leave your engineer at least -6dBFS of headroom! A lot of independent artists think they need to record at 96kHz or print their tracks as loud as possible to sound professional. In reality, modern 24-bit recording provides more than enough dynamic range. The most critical mistake is pushing the faders into the red. When you send tracks that are already clipping, you destroy the transient punch. Leaving that -6dBFS headroom gives me the clean canvas I need to sculpt your drums, make your guitars roar, and deliver a massive, powerful final master.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: In one word: Guitar-music! :) My heart and soul belong to anything that features real instruments and raw energy, whether it’s the gritty groove of Blues, the driving punch of Classic Rock, or the heavy, aggressive walls of sound in Modern Metal. If it has roaring guitars, driving basslines, and real drums, I know exactly how to mix it. That being said, because I focus so heavily on emotion, dynamics, and groove, I’m an allrounder at heart and love bringing that organic, punchy flavor to other genres as well!

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: Clarity, power, and perspective. When you spend weeks writing and recording a song, it’s easy to lose perspective. I bring a fresh, professional pair of ears to the project. I balance the technical elements so that the listener can focus entirely on the story, the performance, and the vibe.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Once I receive your stems, I do a quick technical check to make sure everything is there. Then, I start building the mix from the ground up, focusing heavily on the groove, the relationship between drums and bass, and the raw energy of the guitars. After mixing, I let the track sit, listen with fresh ears the next morning, and apply the final mastering polish for competitive loudness and clarity across all playback systems.
