Interview with Fabio Pizzoli

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I co-wrote a track that went multi-platinum for one of Italy’s top pop acts. What made it special wasn’t just the numbers, but how quickly the song connected with people—it became an anthem. I was involved from the initial topline to the final lyric polish. It reminded me why I do this: to help create moments that feel timeless.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m splitting my time between writing for the Italian market and developing a few international collaborations—including some K-pop demos. I’m also teaching songwriting and helping younger talents shape their sound, which I love.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, a few talented professionals I’ve crossed paths with like Davide Russo a friend of mine.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital—for flexibility and speed, especially in the songwriting and production workflow. But I love adding analog elements when needed for warmth or character. It’s not about choosing one—it’s about knowing when and how to use both.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To treat every song like it’s mine. I bring my experience from working with major artists in Italy and abroad, but I never impose—I collaborate. I promise honesty, creativity, and a deep commitment to helping you find the best version of your song.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The ability to transform emotions and ideas into something that moves people. Also, I love helping artists discover new layers of their voice or style—when they hear something and go, “Wow, I didn’t know I could sound like that,” it’s the best feeling.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They often ask: “Can you make this sound like a hit?” My answer is: “Yes—but let’s first understand what kind of ‘hit’ you want it to be.” A song can be a commercial hit, a niche viral moment, or something deeply emotional that resonates with a fanbase. I focus on aligning your artistic identity with a sound that’s competitive and true to you.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That songwriting is just about inspiration or waiting for a “magic moment.” In reality, it’s a craft. It’s structure, strategy, and knowing how to speak a universal language through music. People think hits are born from pure luck—most of the time, they’re the result of experience, intuition, and hard work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask prospective clients about the specific mood or vibe they want for their song, the target audience or market (e.g., Asian or Italian), and whether they have an instrumental base or concept ready. I also inquire about their preferred genre, style, and any reference tracks to ensure my melodies and lyrics align with their vision for the most effective result

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: My advice to a client would be to have a clear mood in mind for the song, so my work can be as effective as possible.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Macbook, Shure sm7b, headphones and apollo Twin

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I I started working professionally as a songwriter 8 years ago, signing my first contract with Peermusic. This led to opportunities to collaborate on major Italian projects with prominent artists, gaining significant visibility. From there, I decided to target the Asian market, as my skills perfectly aligned with its demands.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Pop with high quality melodies

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with Jennie a Kpop artist because I love his sound environment and the pop melodies he has inside his songs, it would give me the chance to test myself and get my melodies to a very wide audience

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: My music production tip for creating a hit song is to craft a chorus using the “mathematics” of melody—making it repetitive and impactful. Focus on balancing moments of tension and release within the track to keep listeners engaged.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop music, Kpop, Jpop and Italian Music

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Topline, concept and harmonies

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring memorable melodies and concepts tailored for their intended use, optimizing songs for maximum impact. I’m especially skilled at crafting catchy melodies for Korean and Asian markets, ensuring the song is highly effective.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process starts with an instrumental base. I write the melody and lyrics, beginning with the chorus, then move on to recording the vocals and all harmonies. I can also start from a guitar-and-voice idea, but for the most effective result, I prefer working from the client’s concept.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I've got Apollo Twin mk 2 as interface, iLoud Monitor, Shure SM7B, 3 Acoustic guitar, 2 Fender Stratocaster. I use ableton Live for mixing and recording as Logic Pro X. Headphones Sennheiser HD650 and Audio Technica AT50x

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: John Mayer, Charlie Puth, One Direction, Backstreet Boys, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Jon Bellion, Julian Bunetta, Amy Allen, Julia Micheals

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common type of work I do for clients is writing toplines and complete songs. I create lyrics in both Italian and English, and thanks to my experience, I can adapt to various styles and genres.
