I've had the pleasure of working with Landon on countless projects over the years. Landon in every scenario I've thrown at him, has been able to show incredible talent and blow me away each time, in regards to the finished mix I get back. There has been no one else, that is able to capture the "this is finished" sound as well as Landon. I will continue to work with him, and always appreciate the care he puts into every single track that lands in front of him.

Interview with Landon Hook

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: I am friends with and played in a band for years with session guitarist Chad Martin and he is absolutely amazing. If you need guitar work, he is the man.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love helping artists hear their music come to life in a way that matches—or even surpasses—their original vision. That moment when everything locks in and they feel genuinely excited about the mix is what drives me. Being trusted with someone’s creative work is something I never take for granted, and being part of that process is always deeply rewarding.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: I always start by asking about their vision—what they want the song to feel like, not just how they want it to sound. I also ask for reference tracks, how involved they want to be in the process, and if there’s anything specific they’re unsure or excited about. Understanding their goals, timeline, and what success looks like for them helps me tailor the experience to fit their needs and deliver a mix that truly connects.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: My Amphion Monitors, Hendyamps Michelangelo EQ, Hendyamps Rothko XL, Apogee Rosetta 800, & my Audeze Headphones

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: When mixing, always use your ears....never you eyes

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: My strongest skill is bringing out the emotional core of a song through mixing. I know how to shape space, energy, and tone in a way that supports the artist’s intent—making sure the music not only sounds great, but feels right. I’m also highly collaborative and communicative, creating a process that makes artists feel heard and involved from start to finish.

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Both—because each brings something essential to the mix. I use a hybrid setup that combines the character and depth of high-end analog gear (like boutique EQs, compressors, and channel strips from Hendyamps Studios, Neve Portico, and dbx) with the flexibility and precision of digital tools. Analog gives me the warmth, color, and musicality that can’t be replicated in-the-box, while digital allows for speed, recall, and surgical detail when needed. The balance of the two lets me deliver mixes that feel alive, polished, and emotionally resonant—without compromising on workflow or quality.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: You will be more excited about your project when I am done with it than when you sent it to me. Guaranteed.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Find someone who is going to respect you as an artist but also push you to be better and think outside of the box.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I’ve been working professionally in music and audio for over 15 years. I started as a session player and live engineer, but quickly found my passion in the studio—mixing records and helping artists shape their sound. Over the years, I’ve worked with both major labels like Sony, BMG, and Century Media, and a wide range of independent artists across genres. I’ve built and run commercial studio spaces, co-founded Hendyamps Studios, and have mixed everything from intimate acoustic projects to hard-hitting rock and cinematic productions. My career has always been driven by a love for helping artists create something they’re proud to release.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring a mix of technical precision, emotional instinct, and deep respect for the artist’s vision. My goal is always to elevate the heart of the song—enhancing what’s already there without ever getting in the way. Whether it’s clarity in the vocal, punch in the drums, or space for everything to breathe, I focus on creating a mix that feels alive, dynamic, and true to the intent behind the music. I also bring a collaborative mindset, consistent communication, and a process that makes artists feel involved, heard, and confident every step of the way.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Every mix begins with a deep dive into your project—I want to understand your vision, what excites you about the music, and how I can help bring it to life. From there, I study your rough mixes and reference tracks to get a clear sense of the sonic direction. I mix using a hybrid setup, combining boutique analog gear with high-end digital tools to shape a sound that’s both powerful and nuanced. You’ll receive regular updates throughout the process, and once the first mix is ready, we’ll schedule a live video revision session where I stream the mix in real-time so we can make final tweaks together. This ensures you hear the mix exactly how it’s meant to sound—in your own space, with your input guiding the final moves. After sign-off, I deliver high-resolution files via a secure, password-protected link, with everything you need for mastering or release. It’s a fully collaborative and transparent process, built to give you confidence in every step.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: My studio is a hybrid setup built for both precision and creative flexibility. I mix on Amphion monitors and Audeze headphones, which give me incredibly accurate detail and imaging, while Apogee conversion ensures pristine signal throughout the chain. On the analog side, I use a curated collection of boutique EQs, compressors, and channel strips from Hendyamps Studios, alongside trusted pieces like the Rupert Neve Portico series, Universal Audio, and classic dbx units. This setup lets me shape sound with the warmth, depth, and color that only hardware can provide—without sacrificing the speed and flexibility of a modern workflow. It’s a powerful blend of analog tone and digital efficiency, built to deliver mixes that sound alive, dynamic, and emotionally impactful.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: The most common work I do is mixing full-length records and singles for artists and bands looking for a polished, emotionally impactful, and sonically powerful final product. Whether it’s indie, rock, alt-pop, or something in between, I specialize in translating the artist’s vision into a mix that feels clear, dynamic, and true to the song. My clients come to me for a collaborative process—one that includes consistent communication, creative input when needed, and live video revision sessions where we finalize the mix together in real time. It’s not just about getting the balance right—it’s about helping the artist feel confident and excited about what they’re putting into the world.
