Interview with Emma McGann

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My single “Teary Eyed,” produced by Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park). I wrote, performed, and recorded the vocals. The emotional weight of that track and the response it received meant the world to me.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Topline projects, sync-focused production work, and new original releases

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital — for flexibility, speed, and ease of delivery. But I always chase analog warmth through my vocal chain and mix approach.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I’ll bring heart, precision, and a collaborative spirit to every project.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Turning a blank track into a full, expressive song.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: “Can you match this reference vibe exactly?” — I’ll always bring that influence, but in a way that stays true to my own style.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That vocals are just the “final touch.” A good vocal is structural — it can elevate an entire track or make it forgettable.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What’s the mood and story behind the track? Who are your references? Do you need a topline or just vocals? Is this for release, sync, or demo?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Know the vibe you want, have references ready, and communicate clearly. The more you give me upfront, the better I can bring your vision to life.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I’ve been writing and recording music for over 16 years. I’m a self-produced artist, Twitch streamer, and touring performer who’s grown everything independently.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Melodic and clear-cut pop. I focus on clarity, texture, and phrasing that feels genuine and expressive.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: EDM, alt-pop, cinematic pop, singer-songwriter, and anything with a strong emotional current.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Toplining — finding that perfect melodic lift and lyrical phrasing that makes a song stick with listeners.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: Emotion, melody, and memorable hooks. I craft toplines that feel alive — vocals that add both structure and soul to a track.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: After we discuss the vision and I get the track, key, BPM, and references, I record a rough MP3 draft for approval. Revisions follow if needed, and once approved, I deliver final WAV stems once the full funds are released.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: My studio is in a treehouse in the 'jungle'. I record in an acoustically treated vocal booth using a Neumann TLM 103 microphone through a Neve preamp chain, delivering clean, professional-quality vocals. I also record acoustic and electric guitar stems in the same space.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Mike Shinoda, Imogen Heap, Hayley Williams, and artists who blend emotion with innovation. I’m drawn to those who experiment while staying authentic.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I provide release-ready topline vocals and songwriting for EDM, pop, and alt-electronic tracks, from melody and lyrics to polished vocal stems.
