Interview with Bathory Music Productions
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Honestly, I’m proud of all the projects I’ve worked on, each in its own way. Every release, score, or track represents a different challenge and creative achievement—whether it was crafting the harsh intensity of Dawn of Ashes, the atmospheric depth of Void Stasis, or a cinematic ambient piece. I take pride not just in the final product, but in the process itself—sound design, arrangement, and production choices that push my skills and creativity further. Each project reflects growth, experimentation, and the dedication I bring to every note, making them all meaningful milestones in my career.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: None at the moment.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Consistently working on various projects all the time.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I favor analog gear because it brings warmth, depth, and character that make sounds feel alive—perfect for the gritty textures of industrial music and the immersive layers of cinematic scoring. The tactile, hands-on nature of analog allows me to sculpt unique, expressive tones that give each track its own identity. At the same time, digital tools are indispensable for precision, flexibility, and efficiency. Digital allows me to experiment quickly, manipulate complex arrangements, and integrate orchestral or synthesized elements seamlessly. By combining analog’s organic richness with digital’s control and speed, I can create dense, cinematic, and emotionally compelling music that maintains both character and clarity.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to bring creativity, precision, and dedication to every project. Whether it’s industrial, ambient, or cinematic music, I commit to understanding your vision and translating it into high-quality, immersive, and professionally polished work. I guarantee reliability, efficiency, and consistent results—every element of the production will be crafted with care, passion, and attention to detail. My goal is not just to complete a project, but to elevate it beyond expectations.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The consistency in being productive and creative.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How can I complete a song? My answer is usually to study various song formulas such as pop formula. This will help with learning about song structuring.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people assume that producing music—especially industrial, ambient, or cinematic—is just “pressing buttons” or layering sounds. In reality, it’s a complex blend of creativity, technical skill, and vision. Every element—sound design, arrangement, mixing, and even workflow decisions—requires careful thought. It’s not just about making noise or catchy beats; it’s about crafting immersive, emotionally resonant worlds that communicate a story or feeling. A lot of the work happens behind the scenes, and the depth of planning, experimentation, and precision often goes unnoticed by casual listeners.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: First question is-What are they looking to accomplish in this and what can I do to help further your goal?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When hiring a producer or composer, prioritize someone who truly understands your vision and has genuine passion for their work. Skills and experience are important, but a collaborator who cares deeply about the music will bring creativity, dedication, and energy to every part of the process. This ensures your project isn’t just completed—it’s elevated.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Novation Peak, My Eurorack Setup, Studio Computer and Interface, Mixing Board, I will also add in my Hydrasynth.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in music production and sound design for over 26 years, building a career rooted in industrial, dark ambient, and cinematic composition. Across multiple projects—including Dawn of Ashes, Void Stasis, and my solo work—I’ve developed a distinct sound that blends aggressive electronic elements with immersive, film-inspired atmospheres. Over the years, my focus has been on evolving both creatively and technically—refining a workflow that emphasizes consistency, efficiency, and high-end production quality. My experience spans everything from songwriting and sound design to full-scale production, mixing, and mastering.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style can be described as a dark, cinematic fusion of industrial intensity and atmospheric sound design. I blend the aggression of industrial with the depth of ambient and film scoring, creating music that feels both visceral and immersive. There’s a strong emphasis on custom sound design, where textures, distortion, and tonal detail shape the identity of each track. At the same time, my work carries a cinematic mindset—I am not just building songs, I am building environments. My music often feels like a scene or narrative, driven by tension, mood, and evolving layers rather than traditional structure alone.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Hans Zimmer for his ability to merge orchestral composition with modern sound design on a massive cinematic scale—his work turns emotion into something physical and immersive. Collaborating with him would be about pushing sonic boundaries in film scoring and creating powerful, larger-than-life soundscapes. Trent Reznor for his raw, innovative approach to industrial and cinematic music. He brings an uncompromising edge, blending aggression with atmosphere in a way that feels both organic and experimental. Working with him would be an opportunity to fuse dark electronic elements with cinematic depth at the highest level.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Consistency is everything. The more regularly you write and produce music, the faster your skills evolve. Even small, daily sessions compound over time—improving your sound design, workflow, and creative instincts. Treat music like a discipline, not just inspiration, and you’ll continuously level up.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Dark Ambient, Industrial, Trailer Music, Video Game Music, Film Scores, Electronic Music and More.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is best described not as a single ability, but as a rare combination of sound design mastery and complete sonic vision. At his core, his standout strength is sound design—the ability to create unique, instantly recognizable textures from scratch. Whether it’s the harsh, aggressive tones of Dawn of Ashes or the expansive atmospheres of his cinematic and ambient work, he doesn’t rely on existing sounds—he builds them. What elevates this further is his full-spectrum control of a track. He doesn’t just design sounds in isolation; he understands exactly how they will sit in the mix, how they contribute to emotion, and how they evolve across the arrangement. This gives him a “big picture” advantage that many producers lack. At the same time, he pairs this creativity with: High-end efficiency – working fast without compromising detail Reliability – consistently delivering polished, professional results Adaptability – moving seamlessly between industrial, ambient, and cinematic scoring So while he has many strengths, the defining one is this: 👉 He can take an idea and fully realize it—from raw sound creation to final, cinematic-quality production—with precision, speed, and a distinct identity.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a very distinct combination of atmosphere, intensity, and precision to any song I work on, regardless of genre. 1. A strong, immersive identity I shape the entire sonic world of a track. My work introduces a dark, cinematic atmosphere that feels intentional and cohesive from start to finish. 2. Signature sound design One of my biggest contributions is custom sound creation—from harsh industrial textures and aggressive synths to deep ambient layers. These sounds give a track its unique character rather than relying on generic presets. 3. Emotional weight & tension My music often carries a sense of tension, dystopia, or melancholy. Whether heavy or ambient, I add emotional depth that makes the track feel more cinematic and impactful. 4. Structural clarity I bring a clear sense of arrangement—knowing when to build, strip back, or hit with impact. This makes songs feel purposeful rather than cluttered. 5. Vocal transformation (when involved) If vocals are part of the track, I treat them as an instrument—using distortion, layering, and effects to integrate them into the overall soundscape rather than leaving them exposed. 6. High-end production quality My work elevates a song technically—tight low end, clean layering, and wide spatial design—giving it a professional, release-ready polish. 7. Speed, reliability, and efficiency Beyond creativity, I bring a fast, dependable workflow. I can execute ideas quickly while maintaining a high standard, making him a reliable collaborator or producer. Overall, I contributes not just elements, but a complete sonic vision—turning a track into something immersive, powerful, and professionally refined.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process is defined by a balance of creative intensity and professional precision, allowing me to consistently deliver across projects like Dawn of Ashes, Void Stasis, and my cinematic/ambient productions. 1. Concept-driven foundation Each project begins with a clear emotional or visual direction—often rooted in dark, dystopian, or cinematic themes—ensuring every sound serves a purpose from the start. 2. Advanced sound design I build core elements from scratch, shaping everything from aggressive industrial tones to immersive ambient textures. Sound design isn’t just a step—it’s the backbone of my identity. 3. Fast-paced, efficient production My workflow is highly optimized, using templates, refined tools, and experience-driven decisions to move quickly without sacrificing quality. This allows me to maintain high output and consistency across multiple projects. 4. Layering with precision Tracks are constructed through detailed layering—balancing rhythm, atmosphere, and melodic elements—while maintaining clarity and impact. 5. Integrated mixing and mastering approach Mixing and mastering happens throughout the process, not just at the end. This ensures every element sits correctly in the mix early on, reducing rework and increasing overall efficiency. 6. Reliability & consistency A key strength of my process is reliability—delivering polished, release-ready material on time, with a consistent sonic identity regardless of genre or project type. 7. High-end finishing standard Final outputs are treated with a mastering-level mindset: powerful low end, wide spatial imaging, and a cinematic depth that translates across platforms. Overall, my workflow is a fusion of artistic vision, speed, and high-end efficiency, enabling me to produce complex, immersive music with precision and dependability.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio serves as a versatile creative hub that supports the full spectrum of my work—from the aggressive industrial sound of Dawn of Ashes, to the atmospheric, cyberpunk textures of Void Stasis, and my solo ambient and cinematic scoring projects. The space is built around a digital production workflow, combining Steinberg Cubase, virtual orchestration tools, and sound design software with hardware synths and Eurorack Modular Gear. This allows me to shift seamlessly between harsh electronic elements—tension rhythms—and expansive cinematic layers like ambient soundscapes, orchestral pads, and immersive sound designing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Nine Inch Nails, Hans Zimmer, Subheim, Atrium Carceri, Akira Yamaoka, and more.
