Endorse Louis MattrsInterview with Louis Mattrs
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I co-produced and wrote the hook on “No Less” from G-Eazy’s The Beautiful & Damned (Platinum album, Billboard Top 10). It was a great moment because it came from a small idea that grew into something global. I also recorded and vocal-produced the track. Watching it blow up was surreal.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently producing a couple of indie pop EPs, mixing tracks for an R&B artist out of LA, and wrapping up a few vocal production sessions for UK-based singer-songwriters. I love working with both emerging talent and established artists.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens as well as they produce. A great collaborator will elevate your sound without steering it away from what makes it yours. Make sure they understand your vision and bring the right energy - not just technical skills.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Emotional instinct in production - knowing what a song needs to connect. Whether it’s building tension, leaving space, or crafting a hook, I focus on making the music feel authentic, dynamic and emotionally resonant.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring taste, experience, and a collaborative ear. My job is to elevate your vision, not take it over - whether that’s building a beat from scratch, crafting a hook, producing the vocals, or delivering a mix that cuts through. My goal is always to make your song feel like a record.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding your vision - references, influences, and vibe. From there, I’ll build a custom production or polish your existing idea. I keep communication open through each stage (production, vocals, mix, master) so we’re always aligned on direction.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of a professional hybrid setup that blends live instrumentation with a top-tier digital workflow. I play piano, acoustic and electric guitar (Takamine, PRS, Fender Strat), and live bass. My go to VSTs include Kontakt, Keyscape, Trillian, Serum, Massive and Sylenth. For mixing, I use UAD, FabFilter, Waves and iZotope plugins - all run through a Prism Lyra 2 interface and monitored on Unity Audio speakers. I track and mix everything in Pro Tools for precision and clarity. Whether it’s a full production or a final polish, my setup delivers a rich, major-label sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I produce full songs from scratch, help artists turn voice notes or demos into polished tracks, and often handle mixing, vocal production, and mastering. I specialize in pop, R&B, electronic and hip-hop, and I love working closely with artists to help shape their sound.
