Audio Engineer + Producer with work featured on BBC Introducing, Channel 4, Sky Sports + The Discovery Channel. I understand the amount of care we have towards our projects. When mixing, producing, or editing, I will do all I can to capture the feel and emotion, in ways that line up with your vision.
Hi, I hope you're well. My name is Jamie Pullen and I'm a mix engineer, recording engineer and music producer based in the South Coast (UK). There's nothing I love more than spending my time making and playing music.
I grew up on rock, hip hop, pop and metal to name only a few, and it was discovering artists such as Portugal. The Man, The Raconteurs, MF DOOM, Lorde and Earl Sweatshirt which made me realise that music was where I wanted to focus all of my time and energy.
When I'm not engineering I spend my time making beats and playing in my own band with four of my best friends. Because of this I understand how much work goes into getting an artist or band up and running. Therefor I make it my aim to be flexible and facilitating with artists of all sizes and experience, and do my best to adapt to a schedule and budget that works for you.
All in all my goal is to do whatever I can to help create music that we love. I want to get the most out of our remote sessions, so we can keep enjoying what we do, which happens to be the best thing, making music.
Thanks for checking my profile, feel free to get in touch to discuss any potential projects, questions or to just talk music.
Cheers,
Jamie

check_circleVerifiedJamie is awesome. He gives thorough thought and consideration, patience and support through my mixes and plus a heck ton of awesome effects, and mixing, mastering skills. Highly recommend Jamie's professionalism across the board!!
check_circleVerifiedJamie is an incredible mixing engineer! I trusted him with one of the longest and most complex songs on my album, and he absolutely delivered. He was attentive to every note I sent, worked quickly, and clearly explained his changes and suggestions.
He’s not only talented but also kind and easy to collaborate with, even handling an extra request for an abridged version without any issues. I’ll definitely be working with him again!!!!
check_circleVerifiedJamie was an absolute DIAMOND in my time working with him! He was super helpful, guiding and patient throughout our time working on a track together. His skills really shone through and to be fair its the best mix ive had! he has great skill, especially with vocal mixing. He creates a very powerful, profound balanced sound and i will definately be working with him again! all round lovely guy, and super talented too!!!

Worked with Jamie on multiple occasions, personal projects and session work. Knows his stuff, always keen to go the extra mile to get the best outcome, open to trying new things all the time, listens but guides where feels necessary. Super friendly and approachable to work with! Highly reccomend!

I worked with Jamie on a little outro cover I liked and had a very pleasant experience. He helped me a lot with the recording process, bringing my ideas to life and even having his own input to get the best out of the session and my own ability. It was a very calm and positive environment open to creativity which made the experience more enjoyable. I then left him with the mixing which was fast but efficient so I knew he’d given the attention to detail I wanted for the project, without making me wait for too long. I would recommend Jamie to anyone wanting a good quality, relaxed service
Interview with Jamie Pullen
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I travelled up to London to record the "Hear our voice" choir, they were being filmed by the BBC whilst recording a charity EP + raising awareness with a live performance. Saying this group have been through a lot is an understatement. Music is all about bringing people together and helping each other out, this group stand for exactly that. It was an honour to be trusted with such a project.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm lucky enough to have been trusted to mix a handful of songs this month for some of my clients, including a brilliant track by Zoe Tara, and an acoustic freestyle by Liv Sangster. - Check them out!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! I use a console and outboard simultaneously with my protools rig. They each have their own pros and cons so this way, I feel I'm not missing out, or at all limited in what I can do.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll really give it my all whilst working on your projects and communicate through the whole process. I know it can be scary handing your work over to engineers to work on remotely, so I'll do all I can to ensure you feel comfortable and get the results you're after.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: When mixing for clients I often get asked if they can receive stems in addition to the stereo mix. The answer being of course, I do this for no extra fee if it's ever requested.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, pop, hip-hop, folk, metal - I have such a love for all music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication - as a member of a band I know how much we care about out projects, because of this I'll always keep the artist in the know in terms of how it's going. In addition, if I've completed recalls for you, I'll communicate what I've changed for each point on the list so you have the confidence in knowing nothing was missed and if necessary, can discuss further changes upon the initial recalls with more understanding/ reference.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: If I've done my job correctly, then I would have brought the artists vision to life, whilst having it sounding as great as it can sonically.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing new music! There's nothing like the feeling of discovering a new track you love, and then getting to be a part of making it sound as good as you can!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you've got lots/ any questions, ask away. I know how much we care about our music, therefor it's important you're really happy with whoever you choose to work with on your projects. Finding a good fit is such a great thing.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Soundcraft Ghost Console, EHX little big muff, (sounds incredible on the Korg Minilogue synth), my protools rig, my keyboard rig... (cheating I know), and finally my HS8 monitors, been using and loving them for years.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been recording my own music since about 2015. I then studied audio engineering in College, back in 2018-2020. One of my tutors owned a studio, so I started covering shifts at his spot back in 2019, where I still work now and run the place when he's off touring. It's been during my time at this studio where I started bringing in my own clients, and working on projects that really excite me.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: If they were still about... The White Stripes, so much raw energy, so cool.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When the song is ready for the mix, and I've spoken with the client about their vision, I'll always start by listening to the references, the rough, or getting a quick 20 minute balance using broad strokes of almost only volume and pan. It's during this stage where I start to really learn the nuances of the track, and hear what I need to be doing. From then onwards I dive into the details using all the tools at my disposal to get the song sounding as good as I can.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio setup is a hybrid one, making the most out of my protools rig, with a hefty amount of plugins, whilst still incorporating my beloved outboard and Soundcraft Ghost Console on a lot of mixes. Although a console is not a necessity in this modern age, I adore a hands on approach, using gear with a little character. It's a console that always makes me want to be making music. I also spend time at a couple of other commercial spots around Brighton, but almost all of my mixing these days is done here at my home.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Discovering Portugal. The Man and all the artists that inspired them in my early teenage years is what made me realise that I have to work in music, or at the very least, constantly be making music. I love mixers such as Manny Marroquin, Andy Wallace and Vance Powell, and I'm really loving producers such as 9th wonder and the Alchemist at the moment, what they've been doing over the years is really incredible.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work consists of mixing, recording, editing and producing all sorts of music. This goes from folk acts, through hip-hop all the way to rock and metal. I also make and sell beats.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Depends on what I'm working on! I love an aggressive rock mix, I love an intimate, dynamic singer/songwriter mix. If it sounds good it is good.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: "this one goes up to 11..."
