Interview with Garret Mitchell

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: I usually ask: What’s the current state of the song (idea, rough demo, partial lyrics, etc.)? What emotion or vibe are you aiming for? Do you have any reference tracks or artists in mind? What do you need from me — co-writing, structure help, instrumentation, or all of the above? What’s your end goal — demo, release-ready track, or just a creative session?

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Come in with a clear vibe or vision — even if it’s rough. A voice memo, reference track, or a few lyrics can go a long way. Be open to collaboration and don’t worry about having everything figured out — that’s what I’m here to help with. The more honest you are about what you want, the better we can make it.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: 15 years.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Relaxed, my best work comes when I am completely in the moment and relaxed.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Keep it authentic, use dynamic tools to make an already good product even better,

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Rock, Hard Rock, Funk, and Pop.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I bring clarity, energy, and cohesion. Whether it’s tightening the structure, crafting a memorable melody, or laying down the right instrumental parts, I help shape the raw idea into something that feels complete and emotionally dialed in. My goal is to elevate the song while keeping it true to the artist’s voice.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: RHCP, Foo Fighters, John Frusciante, Rick Rubin, Greg Kurstin, Butch Vig.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Most of my clients come to me with a rough idea — a melody, chord progression, or half-finished demo — and I help turn it into a complete, structured song. I often co-write lyrics and vocal melodies, arrange parts, and record guitar, bass, and drums to bring their vision to life. It's all about collaboration and finishing strong.
