Interview with Keith

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I created, wrote, arranged, and Produced a Christmas Project for Ed SAX Thomas. I’m proud of this project because a lot of thought was put into it, embracing the spirit of the Christmas season. Hopefully this will last for years to come

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My project with my ministry group, keith leak & NEW MERCIES. An instrumental project writhed SAX Thomas, and one other project.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I don’t know anyone here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, for me because there is a greater warmth in analog, than in digital. Analog challenges you to be more detailed, while digital you can cut and paste quickly. Analog is more natural sounding.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To deliver a solid project, full of energy and life. Something that they can walk away and be proud of.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: My job, my passion, and my time. I’m my own boss. But I respect the responsibility and the cause.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: About how long will this take. Answer is until you feel that it is completed in a way, to where others will want to hear you.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People think, that what I do is not a job, but a hobby because it’s what I Love to do. They also think I can read their mind when they can’t express or articulate what it is that they want.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is your plan with your music, will you perform live with your music, and who is your target audience?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Come looking for someone who cares for the music of the artist. Be mindful of the investment it takes to make a song develop, and a sincere mind to believe in one’s ability, to grow and go beyond their own limitations.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I would take a Keyboard, microphone, MacBook Pro, UA interface, Headsets

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Full time musician since 1998, however started as a young musician since 1978.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very open, being a keyboard player all of my life, I choose to be versatile, to match the song and the artist.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’m open to any artist that is open to move their music forward. I’m more of a fan of the work that comes with bringing a song to life.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Come to the studio prepared, and having a great understanding of your own song. Invest in yourself.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I generally work on GOSPEL, with JAZZ being next. I also do music for events, specified to their brand.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is playing keyboards, organ, song development, song writing, teaching vocal parts that coincides with the chord structure within the song. And ultimately I encourage to bring the best out of the artist for that particular song.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring life to a song, energy, and I make sure that the instrumentation describes the song to where even if they never hear the vocals, the song will have its own identity,because the music was thought out.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I listen and get an understanding of what the artist would like for their music. I then go and lay foundational tracks to get the order and the process of the song locked in. I then go to vocals, and record them. I the. Put in the rest of the instrumentation of the song. I then record the lead vocal, so that the lead can deliver the best that they can with the music supporting their energy within the song

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use Adam audio A77H speakers, I operate Universal Audio from a interface standpoint, Viscount organ, loads of software, Neumann microphone, Shure microphone, and the company I’m supported by (YAMAHA) I utilize the MONTAGE M8X keyboard as my main focus in the studio

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Earth,Wind, & Fire. Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Shirley Murdock, Clark Sisters, The Winans, Commissioned

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work that I do for my clients are, Producing, Musical Director from the keyboard seat, Vocal Development in a song and its structure, Building Confidence to become believable within the song that they sing.
