Interview with Samuel Dow

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I’m recently working on a student's animation project as a composer of the music and editing the ADR It’s funny and enjoyable to work with. I will share it soon!!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I don’t currently collaborate with anyone on SoundBetter, but I’m always open to working alongside other professionals if your project requires it. I believe in building a solid creative team to get the best results.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Currently work fully in the digital realm, which gives me great flexibility, precision, and speed, especially important for ADR editing and composing to picture. While I appreciate the character of analog gear, modern digital tools allow me to deliver high-quality results efficiently and with full creative control.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is to treat every project with care, creativity, and precision. I’m fully committed to understanding your vision and delivering high-quality results on time. I won’t stop until you’re completely happy with the final product.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What I love most is helping tell stories through sound. Whether I’m composing for a film or editing ADR, there’s something powerful about creating moments that move people, even without words. I enjoy turning creative ideas into sonic emotion.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Most clients ask, "Can you match the emotion I’m looking for?" I always answer: "Absolutely. I work closely with your references, script, or footage to capture the emotional tone you need." Another common question is about revisions, including 1 or 2 rounds to make sure the result feels perfect to you.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: One big misconception is that film music or ADR is just technical work—it's not. Both require emotional sensitivity and narrative awareness. Great music tells the story without words, and seamless ADR editing makes the audience forget it was ever replaced.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I always start by asking about the emotional and narrative goals of the project. I also ask for musical or visual references, technical specs (like file formats or frame rate), and the delivery deadline. For ADR, I ask for video sync details and any on-set notes that help me match performance and tone.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Choose someone who truly listens to your vision. Whether it’s music for film or ADR editing, clear communication and emotional alignment make all the difference. Share references and context—it helps us bring your story to life with precision and feeling. Look for someone who’s not just technically skilled, but creatively invested in your project.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: my pc, a tape recorder, headphones, an audio card, batteries, a hard drive, etc.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I’ve been working professionally in music and audio for over 14 years. I started as a DJ and sound technician, then expanded into music production and ADR editing. Over time, I specialized in composing for film and post-production sound, combining technical precision with emotional storytelling. My background allows me to bridge the gap between creativity and production quality.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Unique and Original

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Always write to the scene, not the tempo. Let the emotion guide the rhythm.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I usually work on urban music and cinematic music, ranging from emotional and atmospheric scores to minimal electronic textures. I also produce music for short films, trailers, and storytelling-driven content. My focus is always on supporting the emotion and rhythm of the scene.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is translating emotion into sound, whether it's through original music or ADR editing. I have a sharp ear for narrative flow and sonic detail, which allows me to create immersive, emotionally aligned results that support the story.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring a cinematic and emotional depth to every project. Whether composing original music or editing ADR, I focus on enhancing the storytelling through sound. My goal is always to serve the scene—creating textures, moods, and clarity that elevate the experience.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: My process begins with a conversation to understand the emotional tone and narrative of the project. For film scoring, I request references, scripts, or scenes to compose music with a clear intention. For ADR, I ask for the dialogue and video files to edit with precision. I deliver a short initial preview to confirm the creative direction. Then, I move forward with the full composition or ADR edit, always including one or two rounds of revisions as needed. Final delivery includes optimized files (WAV, stems, cue sheets, and synced video if required), ready for mixing or final integration. I maintain clear communication throughout the process and ensure the client is 100% satisfied with the result.
