A freelance mixing and mastering engineer based in Japan, specializing in Japanese Emo, Post-Rock, Math Rock, and guitar-driven indie music.
I aim for emotional depth and technical precision in every project. I focus on clarity, spatial dimension, and dynamic contrast to fully capture the intent and energy of each performance.
From reverb-soaked, atmospheric soundscapes to tight, intricate math rock arrangements, I have a deep understanding of the genre and the sonic nuances that make it resonate.
I’ve collaborated with independent bands and vocalists to craft mixes that are clean, immersive, and impactful — with clear communication and attention to detail at the heart of every project.

Interview with Taisuke Anzai
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing with the ears of a musician — detailed, spatial, and emotionally immersive. Especially skilled in balancing dense, guitar-driven arrangements.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotional clarity and atmospheric depth to guitar-driven music — especially post-rock and emo styles. My goal is to enhance what’s already there and give it space to breathe.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process begins with a clear understanding of your vision — including reference tracks and goals. Once I receive your multitracks or stems, I deliver the first mix within 5–7 business days. The fee includes up to 5 revisions to fine-tune the sound. Final files are delivered in WAV and MP3 format. I prefer to keep all communication on SoundBetter unless we agree otherwise.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: DAW:Pro Tools Computer: Mac Pro (Apple M1 chip) Audio Interface: Antelope Orion 32 Synergy Core Monitoring: ADAM, YAMAHA, and iLoud speakers Analog Console: TEAC M3 Outboard Gear: Rupert Neve Designs Shelford Channel Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5211 Drawmer 1960, Drawmer DL241 dbx 160A, 160x, 580 API 505 Warm Audio WA-76, WA-2A, WA-73 Plugins:Waves, UAD, Antelope, iZotope, Techivation, and more
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by bands like toe, MONO, and envy — their emotional dynamics and guitar textures shaped my approach. From a production standpoint, I admire engineers like Steve Albini and Takaaki Mino (toe) for their raw, honest sound
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work with independent artists and bands, mixing and mastering guitar-driven songs — especially in post-rock, emo, and math rock styles. Many projects involve layered arrangements and emotional dynamics, which I specialize in balancing with clarity and depth.
