Josh Solomon is a LA-based funk/R&B live, session, and touring bassist, specializing in groove-based music of all kinds. He brings 15+ years of experience operating as both a live and session bassist, as well as a full fledged artist and producer. He comes locally and internationally renowned for his deft, vocal touch, note choice, and pocket on bass, an artistic sensibility influenced by his deep knowledge of the humanities and art history, remarkable technical knowledge of recording and mixing engineering, as well as an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of Western popular music and art music.
His signature sound draws from the long tradition of LA-based session musicians that have come before him (The Wrecking Crew, Toto, The Funk Brothers), who balance versatility in all genres with a distinct sonic signature deeply rooted in funk, soul, R&B, and classic pop songwriting.
Live/session credits include Leon Sylvers III, XL Middleton, Evann McIntosh, Bubble Tea And Cigarettes, the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra, and beyond. He also manages the popular YouTube social media channel “The Citypop Bassist”, where he breaks down the genre of Japanese Citypop through the lens of a working session musician and as an active artist.
