Interview with Shaun Don
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. I am 25, Digital rules the world now.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’m gonna bring the same energy, quality, and passion to your record as I do to my own. You’re not just getting a beat—you’re getting a sound that’s built to last. I’ll listen, lock in, and make sure the final product hits hard and feels real. Every time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love taking an artist’s pain, hunger, or story and turning it into something that knocks. Ain’t nothing like seeing somebody hear a beat and instantly catch a vibe—like “yeah, that’s the one.” I do this for that feeling…
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “What happens after I buy a beat?” Once payment is confirmed, I’ll send the files (MP3, WAV, and stems if applicable) along with the license agreement.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think producers just make beats and send them off—but it’s way deeper than that. I’m helping artists shape their sound, build their vision, and bring their stories to life. I mix, arrange, guide the vibe, and make sure every element hits the way it’s supposed to.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When you’re hiring a producer, don’t just chase the trend—look for someone who understands your sound and can elevate your vision. Make sure their beats speak to you emotionally and that their quality is consistent across the board. Ask about their workflow, delivery time, and how involved they are in shaping the final product. A good producer isn’t just sending files—they’re helping build your sound and your brand.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making beats 10 years ago in Chicago, blending the city’s raw drill energy with soulful, emotional textures. Creating a signature sound—I have produced for rising and established artists like FONZO6700, Lil Zay Osama, FBG Cash, RMC Mike, and more. before building my name in the streets and on streaming platforms, I was signed to the legendary Rap-A-Lot Records, with over 15 million streams, my beats continue to shape the next wave of hip hop
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My sound lives in the trenches but speaks from the soul—heavy 808s, raw melodies, and stories in every beat.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Money Man, Drake, Kanye West, Yeat, The Weeknd, Future, Ludacris, BUMP J
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stay consistent, stay original. Trends come and go. Build your sound, stay tapped in, and let your work speak before your name does.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize in drill, soulful trap, pain music, and R&B-influenced hip hop. Whether it’s heavy street anthems, emotional storytelling, or melodic vibes. My sound lives between the grit of the trenches and the soul of the church.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Blending emotion and street energy into beats that feel cinematic, raw, and unforgettable. I have mastered the art of making drill and R&B production. My beats don’t just knock, they tell stories.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotion, energy, and identity to every record. I make beats that elevate the artist’s message. My production doesn’t just support the vocals—it builds the world around them. I create space for artists to shine, but I also push the sound forward with detail, dynamics, and depth. From the bounce in the drums to the mood in the melody, I bring a cinematic feel that turns tracks into experiences. If you’re trying to make something real—something that sticks—I’m the one who makes it hit harder.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every track starts with a vibe. I dig into raw emotion, whether it’s pain, pressure, or passion, and build the melody first—sometimes from scratch, sometimes flipping a soulful sample. Once the mood is set, I bring in heavy 808s, sharp drums, and that signature bounce that moves the streets. For custom beats, I work closely with the artist—getting a feel for their vision, tone, and message. I offer a few drafts, then fine-tune the arrangement to make sure it hits exactly how it should. Once the beat is locked in, I handle mixing and mastering with precision to make sure every sound is clean, loud, and industry-ready. My turnaround is quick, but I never rush the art.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Drawing inspiration from pioneers like Young Chop, DJ L, My pops––legendary DJ, DJ Supaman, and Southside, I was born into that raw energy of Chicago music. Many other producers like No I.D., and D Brooks Exclusive. I appreciate all their contributions of haunting melodies, gospel or soul-inspired samples, and hard-hitting 808s—with that cinematic sound that hits both the heart and the streets.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I cook up custom beats from scratch—dark drill to soulful vibes. I mix, master, arrange, and help artists level up their sound. From concept to final product, I turn ideas into anthems.
