Jack Haze on SoundBetter

RnB and Trap mixing engineer who makes clear, loud, and on vibe mixes

Located in Oxford, Jack Haze operates his private studio Haze Studios, where he does mixing and mastering for artists.

Clients contact me the most on here, saying their song feels like it is 'missing something'. I can instantly tell what is missing and know exactly what to do to make it sound great. I provide an all-in-one service (mixing and mastering included) that gives your track everything it needs to stand out for £350.

Whether that means replacing drums to make them hit harder, adding ear-candy effects, replacing samples, or whatever needs to be done to create memorable moments within your song. Your song will sit side by side with radio-ready songs by your favorite artists.

I produce R&B and Trap, mainly, which includes subgenres from rage to cloud to Trap-Soul, Motown to Swing. However, I also have experience producing Pop and Folk.

Interview with Jack Haze

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Fabfilter, Goodhertz, Ozone, Slate Digital, Apollo and Slate ML1

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I started when I was 12 in music class, where I was introduced to music production software, had some music released by the school and it went from there. I really started to knuckle down 7 years ago and I have been building my career ever since.

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: Clean, loud, banging drums, beautiful melodies, and soaring vocals. I love the way a song dances around a focal point.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I would love to spend time with David Bowie in the studio; the knowledge I could gain is endless. The Weeknd would also be a very interesting character to work with.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Less is more, rely on the feel of a change rather than measurable metrics like luffs etc.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: RnB Trap Pop and even Folk

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My work ethic, I can spend night and day in the studio and let time teleport by; I'm able to produce a high output and finish mixes quickly. Talent can be divided into taste and time, and I have put in the time needed. If you like my taste, then I feel we will work very well together.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I have been singing, writing, producing, and mixing for over 7 years, I have devoted my life to musical development and, because of this, refined a very acute ear for sound and vibe. I've worked with a lot of producers, artists, and engineers who have opened my mind to new concepts and furthered my skills. I am confident in my decisions and will always provide reasons, or be willing to show examples.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: With every mix I determine which elements of the song are the driving factors, I then solo those elements and see how they groove together. Generally, these are vocals and bass. I mix minimally using as few changes as possible to let the unique character and emotion of the song through. Following this I mix the whole song and let the elements fit together, ensuring everything hits hard and sounds beautiful. Then finally I compare the track with a reference to make doubly sure it comes out perfect!

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I use a typical Apollo Twin to Slate ML1 setup and generally do everything in the box, but I do have access to outboard gear should I feel the mix needs.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Musically David Bowie, The Weeknd, and MJ are my favorite artists, though I listen to everything from Tory Lanez to Brent Faiyaz. As for producers/mix engineers, I have a lot of respect for Leslie Brathwaite, Illangelo and Tom Elmhirst.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Clients come to me asking for loud, clean, and polished mixes. I'm in the studio 24/7 so my turnaround is very quick. I understand most rappers work very fast and I can accommodate that while maintaining radio-ready quality. I mainly work with rappers and RnB singers, mixing and mastering tracks while adding my own special spice in there too.
