Raw vocals to Industry-ready records. Clean, punchy, modern mixes with professional vocal clarity and loud, balanced masters.
I’m a New York-based mixing and vocal engineer specializing in R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop music. I help artists take raw recordings and turn them into clean, balanced, release-ready tracks that translate well across streaming platforms, headphones, and speakers.
My work focuses on vocal clarity, dynamic balance, and modern sound design. I handle everything from vocal editing and tuning to full mix and mastering services, making sure every element sits correctly in the record without losing the emotion or identity of the song.
I primarily work in Logic Pro and Pro Tools, and I’m experienced in shaping both simple demo recordings and full production sessions into polished final masters.
Services include:
• Mixing
• Vocal Tuning (Pitch Correction)
• Vocal Editing & Cleanup

My goal is straightforward: deliver professional sound quality that helps your music compete in today’s market while still sounding like you.

Interview with Steve Hill(z)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: On a song called "Body by Hollywood Haze". I was on the chorus. I also Recorded and Mixed the finished project.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing and developing vocal-focused projects for independent artists preparing releases. also possibly releasing a EP.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet...
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital: Because it’s precise, efficient, and allows for fast iteration without sacrificing quality.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I focus on clarity, communication, and delivering a final product that translates well across all listening environments.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Taking a rough idea and hearing it turn into something that actually feels like a finished record.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you work with my raw recording or does it need to be studio quality?” Most clients send home recordings. I can work with raw audio as long as it’s clear and not heavily distorted. “Can you fix timing and pitch issues in my vocals?” Yes, within reason. I handle timing alignment and pitch correction as part of the editing process. “Do I need to be in a studio to get a good result?” No. Most projects are done with home recordings, but cleaner recordings will always give better results.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is just turning things up or adding effects. In reality, most of the work is balance, cleanup, and subtle decision-making. Also please record everything as clearly as possible.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s your reference track? What vibe are you aiming for? Are your vocals final or still being developed?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Send clean files, be clear about your vision, and trust the process: good mixing is collaboration, not correction.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Logic Pro, a reliable audio interface, a solid condenser mic, headphones I trust, and a basic MIDI controller. Simple setup, maximum flexibility.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in audio engineering for several years, developing through hands-on studio work, freelance projects, and continuous practice across different production environments.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clean, modern, vocal-focused mixes with strong clarity and controlled dynamics but im always learing and experimenting so this may change.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dr. Dre so i can see his workflow in action.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I would usually say "Don’t fix everything with plugins—good editing and clean recordings solve more problems than heavy processing ever will." but i am coming to notice, once you learn to do this instinctually, you develop new methods and experiment on how to get where you want to go.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop, but I’m open to any genre that relies heavily on vocal performance.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal work—especially cleaning, tuning, and making vocals sit naturally in a mix without sounding over-processed.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: For Engineering: Clarity, depth, and structure. I take messy or raw recordings and turn them into something intentional, balanced, and ready for streaming platforms. For vocals: I bring a unique sound and character that helps the performance stand out while still sitting naturally in the mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by organizing and cleaning the session, then focus on vocal comping and editing, followed by mix balance, effects, and final polish. I always prioritize clarity and emotional impact.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in Logic Pro and Pro Tools using a Focusrite interface, professional-grade plugins, and a streamlined setup focused on accuracy, vocal clarity, and efficient workflow. If a professional studio is required, I can arrange studio rental at an additional cost.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Dr. Dre and Michael Jackson’s post-production work heavily inspired me. I studied their approach during a lesson at SAE Institute, where I learned how precision, discipline, and attention to detail in the studio can completely transform a record from good to timeless.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mix vocals and full songs for R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop artists. Most work involves cleaning up raw recordings, balancing vocals with the instrumental, and turning rough demos into polished, release-ready tracks.
