Interview with Seth Ingram
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I would have to say my old band, Through Blood. I played bass in the band so I love doing that but I also helped with the production anytime we released or recorded a song.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m not sure if he’s on here or not but Jonathan Osborne. He’s my uncle and he’s got a lot of good experience and knows what he’s doing.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. There is so much more you can do as far as effects goes.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will work with you until you are happy with it. My ultimate goal is to make sure you get the song you want to release from me.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you wanting to get out of the track? Emotions, blistering breakdowns, etc.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Shure SM58, Quad Cortex, Sony MDR-7506, my laptop and a Roland Juno DS88
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I currently work at a factory as a day job but I would love to do this full time.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern with a touch of 2010s metal production.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Kingdom of Giant. They got me into like metal music and so it would be a dream come true to work with them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always go for a balanced mix. One it sounds better through headphones and it will keep the listeners coming back for more.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Metal music primarily but I have played around with Electronic Music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Definitely mixing. I’ve been mixing for probably 8 years now and I enjoy it the most.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I would have to say balance. I’m a self proclaimed Audiophile, so I hate when songs aren’t balanced properly and not mixed well. That’s what I base a huge majority of my mixing and production work on is trying to find a balance in the song so it sounds amazing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listen first, mix, then edit. After you get a pre-mix done it’s way easier to see what else needs to be done and then you can go from there.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a very basic studio set-up. I do pretty much everything on my laptop and have some additional hardware that I don’t use. I have a lot of plugins including Auto-Tune, Waves, Izotop Suite, and many others at my disposal.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I would definitely have to say Mike Stringer, Randy LeBouf and Jason Ingram. Jason is more of a Worship producer but I absolutely love his stuff. Randy and Mike both have a way with making songs come to life and it’s awesome.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Metal or Rock and Christian Worship Music. They are kinda different sides of the spectrum but I enjoy doing it all.
