Interview with Eyze (SerpentIris)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Recently worked on Bhumika (Home At Last) by Nicholas Leung, in collaboration with HoYoverse. The project fuses multiple genres and styles - orchestral, pop and J-Rock - and features a number of recorded instruments, as well as a big stack of vocals. Getting every single element to fit and shine together was a very satisfying process, and we are all very happy with the final result (now on all streaming platforms!). The YouTube MV also features official voiceover, which was processed by our team, and adds an extra layer of emotion to the whole work.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently working with independent artists on their albums, as well as building a portfolio for pitching. Last but not least, working on content and organising events for the SerpentIris Community members.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with creatives is always good fun! There is nothing more beautiful than inspiring and being inspired by other creatives.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: A wide range of expertise and experience. Particular focus on highlighting the artist's vocal performance - by guiding the recording session, vocal editing and finally, mixing the vocals so that they sound polished and truly captivating for the audience.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: 1) Discuss the artist's vision, main goals and timeframes. 2) Sketch 3 ideas which fit the agreed upon direction. 3) The artist chooses which idea to expand on, first full draft is then developed. 4) Feedback is incorporated until a final version is agreed on (up to 3 revisions included in the initial price) 5) Final deliverables + Licences
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your artistic vision? What are your timeframes? What is the one non-negotiable you would absolutely need to feature in your project?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style combines various genres, sounds and vibes with Pop songwriting approaches. I carefully balance the artist's unique sound and vision with the current pop music standards, aiming to make them stand out and reap commercial success.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Bespoke music production, songwriting, mixing & mastering. I specialise in pop and alternative pop music, and take particular care of the vocal performance (for non-instrumental-only pieces).
