Interview with Pro Audio Engineer | Pop, EDM

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm very happy with my "Beef, It's What's For Dinner" commercials that have aired on TV, Internet and Radio.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Expanding a network of consistent clientele!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: My friend Craig Brock recommended I try this platform - I've worked with him professionally a couple of times and he is extremely kind and knowledgeable on the craft.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Ideally both. Realistically digital because anyone who says analogue I've found is just way more wealthy than the average person. You can find a digital clone of your favorite analogue toy and it will cost a fraction of the actual product and sound indistinguishable from the "real thing".

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I deliver high quality work in a very fast turnaround.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The greatest audio engineer is the one whose touch is imperceptible.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How long have I known I wanted to do this for a living? The answer is - I've always known.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That people shouldn't have to pay for it because it "Looks so easy".

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What are some artists you admire? Who do you take inspiration from?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Clear vision, concise instructions.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: laptop, headphones, mic, XLR, and a mouse!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I was in the Air Force for six years, all the while working on the Air Force News Network. When my enlistment ended in 2020, I began my journey into professional voice over work and freelance audio engineering.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: a modern take on Daft Punk

  28. A: NEIL FRANCES is a DJ and audio-engineering duo that attempts to bring back the sound of disco with more contemporary grooves.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: I personally try to look at a track not as a series of instruments, but a section of frequencies that exists in their own space. Our job as audio engineers is to separate these frequencies into their most desirable shape to then fit them back into a larger whole.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, Nu Disco, and EDM.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Extremely clean and balanced mixing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I have over a decade of professional audio engineering expertise. Whether it's writing lyrics, mixing an existing track, or polishing a mix, I have the experience to get your musical project across the finish line.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I pride myself on offering extremely fast turnaround. I like to take a quick yet methodical approach to all audio engineering tasks beginning with essential composition and ending with mastering.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a home PC with two 1080TI graphics cards along with a 64-gig RAM drive(extremely low latency). For the studio portion, I have two 6-inch JBL monitors, an SSL 2+ audio interface, and a RODE NT1 microphone.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Rick Rubin and Shawn Everett for their exact, minimalistic approach to audio engineering
