Hugo Benoit Roche

Pop, Blues & Jazz Guitarist

Hugo Benoit Roche on SoundBetter

I'm a professional guitar player with hundreds of shows and recordings under my belt. I have a university degree in jazz guitar and play mostly fingerstyle on the electric!

I specialize in blues, jazz, folk and pop music. I play slide guitar and have been posting covers and improvisations on Instagram for years (@hugo_benoitroche). I have a beautiful collection of instruments (Fender, Gibson, Martin) and I LOVE collaborating with creative people.

Interview with Hugo Benoit Roche

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Keep the signal chain as minimalist as possible. Stacking drives is fun live, but it just doesn't sound natural in the studio.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: Taking the time to really listen is everything for me. I'm looking for something missing, I want to serve the song and not just to play over it.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: Everything is plugged into my UA Apollo x4. I am using a '64 Princeton Reverb Handwired into a Fryette Power Load IR (using the analog Cab sim) and a collection of boutique pedals including brands like DanDrive, Origin Effects, Jam Pedals and Vemuram. I also have an Austrian Audio OC18 for recording vocals, acoustic and classical guitar and to use as a room microphone.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: I really like John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Joey Landreth, Doyle Bramhall II and Jason Isbell... but the list goes on!

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: I mainly track electric, acoustic and classical guitar in my studio in Quebec.
