LEONAR on SoundBetter

I'm a Italian EDM Producer and a Mixing & Mastering Engineer with a lot of experience in the world of music, I made remixes for some of the biggest artist in Italy (I also mixed and mastered those tracks), I made a lot of masterclasses with some of the best engineers in the industry, reaching a really high level. I'll do my best.

In my studio, each track is treated with care to achieve a clean, balanced, and powerful sound. I use Dolby Atmos for mixing, creating an immersive, three-dimensional sound experience that enhances every element of the track. This approach ensures that the sound adapts perfectly to any listening environment, from headphones to surround sound systems.

At the same time, I use analog equipment such as equalizers and compressors to add warmth and depth to the mix, maintaining the natural dynamics of the sound. This analog process offers a unique touch that enriches each track without compromising quality.

During mastering, I optimize each track to ensure the best performance across all platforms, making sure it sounds powerful and well-defined on both high-quality audio systems and streaming platforms. My goal is always to preserve the artist’s intent while maximizing emotional impact, ensuring each track resonates with strength and clarity.

Interview with LEONAR

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: That's awesome! Collaborating with another engineer on "Wild Ones" by Leonar must have been a great experience. It’s always interesting when two engineers bring their own strengths to a project, especially when you can combine different perspectives and techniques to create something unique.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m working on a few EDM projects in genres like Future House and Bass House, focusing on refining mixes and adding depth to the sound design. I'm also working on some mastering jobs for artists who are preparing to release their tracks across various streaming platforms. It’s a mix of both creative and technical work, making sure everything translates perfectly while maintaining the energy and vibe of each track.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I believe in the best of both worlds — analog and digital. Analog offers warmth, character, and a certain "musicality" that’s hard to replicate digitally. Gear like analog compressors, EQs, and tape adds a unique depth and richness to the sound that can’t be matched. However, digital is incredibly versatile, precise, and cost-effective, offering endless flexibility with tools, automation, and plugins that speed up workflows without compromising quality. I use both to complement each other, choosing the right tool for the sound I’m aiming for.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise to clients is to always deliver a mix that enhances their vision while ensuring it sounds professional, balanced, and powerful across all platforms. I’ll work closely with them, listening to their feedback, and make sure the final product captures the emotion and energy they’re aiming for. Above all, I’m committed to providing quality, attention to detail, and timely delivery, no matter the project size.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What I like most about my job is the creative process — taking an idea, a raw track, and shaping it into something that resonates emotionally and sonically. I love the challenge of balancing technical precision with artistic vision, and the satisfaction of hearing the final mix come to life. Every project is unique, and being able to collaborate with artists to bring their sound to its fullest potential is incredibly rewarding.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Here are some of the most common questions I get from clients: "How long will the mix/master take?" My answer: It depends on the complexity of the track, but typically a few days to a week per song, depending on revisions and the amount of detail involved. "Can you make my track sound louder?" My answer: Yes, but loudness isn’t the primary goal. I focus on balance, dynamics, and making sure the track translates well across all platforms without losing clarity or impact. "Do I need to send stems or just the final mix?" My answer: Stems give me more flexibility to work with the individual elements of the track. It’s ideal for mixes, but for mastering, just the final mix is usually fine.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing and mastering are just about fixing problems or making things loud. In reality, it's more about enhancing the emotion and vision behind the track while making sure everything translates well across different systems. It's not just technical work — it’s about artistry and storytelling through sound.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: When speaking with prospective clients, I typically ask: What’s the overall vibe or emotion you want to convey with this track? Are there any specific references or artists you want your sound to align with?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: When hiring a provider, focus on creative vision and communication. Make sure they understand your sound and direction. Look for someone with experience in your genre, who balances artistry with technical precision and can ensure your music translates well across all platforms.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Audio Interface – Something like the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 for solid conversion and multiple inputs/outputs. Portable Keyboard/Controller – A MIDI controller like the Akai MPK Mini for flexibility and portability. Headphones – The Mackie MC-350 for accurate, detailed monitoring on the go. Compressor/Preamp – A Universal Audio 1176 for its classic analog warmth and versatility. Laptop – A Windows PC with enough power and storage to run my DAW, plugins, and sample libraries smoothly.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I’ve been in the industry for about 2 years now, although it feels like I’ve packed a lot into that time. I started by working on smaller projects and building my skills in mixing, mastering, and sound design. As I grew, I began collaborating with more artists and exploring different genres, which helped me develop my unique style. In just two years, I’ve been able to focus heavily on EDM and expand my technical expertise, blending analog and digital techniques to create more dynamic and immersive mixes. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m eager to keep pushing my limits.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I’d describe my style as futuristic, energetic, and melodic. I love blending forward-thinking sound design with dynamic energy, ensuring the track feels fresh while still retaining emotional depth. The melodies are always a key focus, giving the music a sense of movement and flow, while the energy drives the experience. It’s about creating something that feels both cutting-edge and deeply engaging at the same time.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Working with Martin Garrix would be an incredible experience. His ability to craft huge, emotive drops while maintaining such clarity and precision in his mixes is something I really respect. His music has that perfect balance of energy and melody, and I’d love to contribute to pushing those elements even further — adding depth, texture, and a bit of that special touch to really bring out the full impact of his tracks.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: A key tip I’d give is to focus on the artistic side of the mix just as much as the technical. While it’s easy to get caught up in EQs, compressors, and stereo width, remember that the mix should serve the song's emotional intent. Let the vibe of the track guide your decisions, whether that’s giving space to a vocal to make it more intimate or creating depth with immersive soundscapes. The technical aspects should support the artistry — not overshadow it.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: EDM e future house bass house progreeive house e in generale edm ChatGPT ha detto: I primarily work on EDM, with a special focus on Future House, Bass House, Progressive House, and all sub-genres of electronic music. The dynamic sound design, punchy low end, and layered melodies in these genres are a perfect fit for my style. I love crafting immersive mixes that bring out the energy and movement of the tracks, especially when working with spatial elements in Dolby Atmos. Each track presents a new challenge in balancing powerful bass, crisp highs, and wide soundscapes while preserving the track’s groove and emotional impact.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is creating a cohesive, dynamic mix that balances technical precision with emotional impact. I’m especially good at blending analog warmth with digital clarity, ensuring the sound is both powerful and detailed. I also excel at working in immersive formats like Dolby Atmos, where I can shape the spatial elements to enhance the listener's experience without losing the integrity of the music.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring clarity, depth, and emotion to a song. My goal is to enhance the artist’s vision by ensuring every element has its place in the mix, whether it’s making vocals shine, tightening the low end, or adding spatial dimension in Dolby Atmos. I aim to create a balanced, dynamic sound that feels alive and translates across all platforms — always maintaining the song’s core vibe and emotion.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: My typical workflow starts with understanding the artist’s vision and the emotional core of the track. From there, I move into a hybrid mix process — balancing analog gear for warmth and depth with digital tools for precision and flexibility. I focus on creating a clean low end, a wide and detailed stereo (or spatial) image, and making sure every element sits in the right place. For Dolby Atmos projects, I spend extra time on immersive placement to enhance the listener’s experience without losing the musical intent. Final stage is mastering — dialing in loudness, tone, and translation across all systems.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: My studio is a hybrid setup fully equipped for Dolby Atmos production. I combine high-end analog gear — like SSL compressors, Neve preamps, and Pultec-style EQs — with precision monitoring calibrated for both stereo and immersive formats. The space is acoustically treated and designed for both creative flow and technical accuracy, allowing me to deliver mixes that are detailed, dynamic, and ready for any platform.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Two major inspirations for me are Timofey Reznikov and Luca Pretolesi. Timofey's work stands out for its precision, powerful low end, and creative sound design — especially in electronic music. Luca Pretolesi inspires me with his hybrid workflow and polished, wide-sounding mixes across EDM, hip-hop, and pop. Both combine technical mastery with a strong musical sense, which is exactly what I aim for in my own work.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I Most of my work involves mixing and mastering for music projects, often in Dolby Atmos. I use a hybrid setup — combining analog gear with digital tools — to deliver polished, dynamic, and immersive mixes. Clients come to me for high-quality sound that translates across all formats and playback systems.
