Interview with Luis Berbegal
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will get better results than you expected.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like the most on my job is working on projects. Each project has a lifetime so it starts in some point and ends. So that makes that every job is different and also each costumer is. Music changes so fast and I'm able to work and adapt to new sounds.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't focus just on the Engineer that will make your track be the cleaner one on the market. This does not give you any value if the core idea is lacking consistency. Look for the one that would be fully involved on your project and boost on any part from composition to final master. You can find a lot of people who would do the job to make money even the track feels not finished..
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started on music production at the age of 13, 11 years before. Since that I have found a passion and dedicated big part of my live to it doing self productions and working with some artists. I studied an Audio Engineering at Alicante (Spain) and released some music that were signed by major labels on the hard dance scene. Now on 2024 I built my own professional studio collab where I want to help artist grow and develop it's musical career.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic, EDM and rock music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have worked as a recording/mixing engineer, producer, artist. So this multidisciplinary mindset let's me see a whole spectrum and have a big focus on the development of the track.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Details that make the big change. I will bring an objective point of view and help the artist idea to become even better. I have worked with lots of tracks that had a good idea but were lacking on this small details that transforms into a banger.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to be fully involved in any project and be near to the costumer. Feeling part of each piece. I start with a short interview, get to know the artist, the track and it's vision. Then we move straight to the point. I start to work in order to have a first concept of the final results on the first 3-5 days (a first mix, track sketch). From that point I start sharing things though Samply with my costumer on a direct communication until getting to the final result where I feel the track is done and the costumer validates. THE JOB FINISH WHEN THE COSTUMER IS HAPPY WITH THE RESULT.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I own my own studio called KOVA. It contains recording room and control room. On the gear I own a pair of Focal Trio 6s and a second pair formed by Adam Audio A7x. All connected with a Universal Audio Interface. On the recording room I can set up to 20 inputs and 4 outputs, all this connection are handmade with Mogami cable and Neutrik connectors. Those who record on my studio can enjoy a big guitar collection with 2 Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster, Custom guitars and best amps such as Marshall JCM800 from the late 80s.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I focus my work on results and costumer experience. I like to be fully involved in any project and be near to the costumer as each project has it's own storytelling so I do a short interview to know the secrets behind each track and have a deeper connection with it. Then, no restrictions (no revisions and no extra costs). During the project development I like to use Samply where I would update each work day to my costumer in order to show the current status and follow the artist vision.
