Interview with NaveenKannan

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: "I promise to deliver a mix and master that enhances the clarity, depth, and emotion of your music while staying true to your artistic vision. I am committed to providing high-quality, professional sound with attention to detail, clear communication, and a smooth workflow. Your music deserves the best, and I will ensure it sounds polished, dynamic, and ready for any platform."

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: "What I love most about my job is bringing a song to life. Hearing a raw recording transform into a polished, dynamic, and emotionally impactful track is incredibly rewarding. I enjoy the creative and technical challenges of mixing and mastering, and the satisfaction of helping artists achieve their vision. Every project is unique, and I take pride in ensuring each song sounds its absolute best."

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: 1. How long will it take to mix and master my song? → Typical turnaround is 2-5 days, depending on complexity. 2. How many revisions do you offer? → I provide revisions until you are happy and confident about your track , or scores . 3. Can you make my song sound like [reference track]? → Yes, I can match the tonal balance and vibe while maintaining your unique sound. 4. Do you provide vocal tuning and time correction? → Yes, it's available as an additional service. 5. What’s the difference between mixing and mastering? → Mixing balances individual tracks, while mastering polishes the final mix for distribution. 6. Do you work with my genre? → I have experience across multiple genres, including film scores, indie, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: "One of the biggest misconceptions is that mixing and mastering can "fix" a poorly recorded track. While I can enhance clarity, balance, and depth, the quality of the final mix heavily depends on the recording itself. Another misconception is that louder means better—good mixing is about dynamics, space, and emotion, not just volume. My goal is to make a track sound professional, polished, and ready for any platform."

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: 1. What’s your vision for the song? (Any reference tracks or specific sound you’re aiming for?) 2. Do you have any mix notes or elements you want to highlight? 3. What’s the intended release format? (Streaming, film, radio, etc.) 4. Are there any technical requirements or loudness preferences? 5. Do you need additional services like vocal tuning or stem mastering?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: "When hiring a mixing and mastering engineer, always listen to their previous work to ensure their style matches your vision. Provide well-organized stems and clear references to help achieve the sound you want. Communication is key—be open about your expectations, but also trust the engineer’s expertise to enhance your track. A great mix isn’t just about loudness; it’s about clarity, balance, and emotion."

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: "I started my journey as a recording engineer in a studio, collaborating with various artists and refining my skills in audio production. Over time, I transitioned into an assistant mix engineer for films, gaining hands-on experience in cinematic sound. Eventually, I took on the role of the main mix engineer for Zee5’s AYALI, Hotstar’s Hotspot, and many more films, independent songs, and commercials. In addition to mixing and mastering, I have also contributed as a music producer for several films, bringing a well-rounded approach to sound and music production. With over six years of industry experience, I continue to deliver high-quality audio that enhances the impact of every project."

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: "My mixing and mastering style is clean, dynamic, and emotionally impactful. I focus on achieving a balanced sound with clarity, depth, and warmth while ensuring every element sits perfectly in the mix. Whether it's a punchy modern track or a cinematic, immersive soundscape, I adapt my approach to enhance the artist’s vision."

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: "I would love to work with AR Rahman because of his innovative sound design, rich arrangements, and genre-blending compositions. His music pushes creative boundaries, and working on his projects would be an incredible opportunity to refine sonic textures and bring out emotional depth in every mix."

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: "Always focus on gain staging. Keeping proper levels throughout the mix prevents unwanted distortion, preserves headroom, and ensures a clean, dynamic final master. A well-gained mix makes mastering smoother and more effective."

  22. A: "I work across multiple genres, including film scores, Indie, Rock , pop, hip-hop, R&B, Classical and electronic music.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: "I bring clarity, depth, and impact to every track. My mixing and mastering process enhances dynamics, balances frequencies, and ensures a polished, professional sound. Whether it's a crisp, radio-ready mix or a cinematic, immersive experience, I tailor my approach to match the artist’s vision while maintaining industry standards."
