Interview with Eva Davenport
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on recording my full length album which will be release by summer 2018! The first single off the album is live on SoundCloud and Youtube (links and track on profile).
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to listen to your thoughts and desires and incapsulate your being within the music. I know first hand, your songs are your most prized possessions. I promise to let you make all of the final decisions and offer my best possible guidance, support and knowledge.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who are you as an artist? Who are your influences? What genre(s) do you connect most with? What is your target audience? Do you have music out that I can listen to? Do you have an idea of what you want for your song (genre, feel, lyrics, melody, rhythmic placement, arrangement, visual)? Etc.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The smallest idea is enough. If all you have is a riff, or a lyric line or a title, I can help you turn that into a full song. Writing lyrics and melody are my specialty and I would be happy to help you turn your ideas into a musical reality.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been taking voice lessons for 7 years, working in the studio for 4 years and performing and songwriting for over 10. I know that I want to work in the music business for the rest of my life. I plan on releasing my full length album next summer which I'm currently in the process of recording! While recording the album I'm rehearsing for upcoming gigs working as the social media promoter for my GB band and planning my own shows. 5 years from now I want to be a well known vocalist/performer/songwriter. I want to be planning a tour and be gigging consistently, performing my original music with a good following.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work in the R&B/Soul/Neo Soul world, but I listen to music and write music of all genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I believe my strongest skill is my ability to complete the lyrics and melody of songs in under 30 minutes. Most often my best songs come to me all at once with the melody and lyrics that I go back and rearrange once I've recorded a reference to the song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My top list of inspirational artists (in no particular order) would have to be; Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Whitney Houston, India Arie, Kehlani, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, 2Pac, Rihanna, Beyonce.
