Interview with Tina Manevskaya
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I’m composing music for an independent animated series and independent film (it's gonna be the first episode of series)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love the warmth and texture of analog, the "analog workflow", but the flexibility of digital tools allows for limitless possibilities in composition and sound design. So I will choose digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will deliver a high-quality, immersive soundtrack that enhances your project’s atmosphere and storytelling, ensuring a smooth creative process and clear communication throughout.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The ability to create emotions through sound and help bring stories to life with music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: Can you match a specific style? A: Absolutely! I can adapt to various styles, from cinematic orchestration to electronic soundscapes. Q: How long does it take to compose a track? A: Depending on complexity, anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks."
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only composes great music but also understands how sound interacts with visuals and gameplay. A good composer should enhance the project’s atmosphere and storytelling through audio.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been composing music for over five years, working on films, games, and animated series. My background in interactive music and sound design allows me to bring both creativity and technical expertise to every project. I have also developed my own interactive music systems using MetaSound and Blueprint in Unreal Engine 5.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When composing for interactive media, think modularly. Instead of a linear piece, design music in layers that can fade in and out depending on the player's actions. This keeps the soundtrack dynamic and immersive without feeling repetitive.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Cinematic music, Orchestral music, Jazz, Electronic music and other (films usually need different genres)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Cinematic music, Orchestral music
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A deep cinematic feel, storytelling through music, and an immersive atmosphere. I ensure that every composition enhances the emotional weight of the scene, whether through orchestral grandeur, haunting minimalism, or electronic textures. My experience in interactive audio also allows me to create adaptive scores that evolve with the player's journey.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by deeply understanding the project’s vision, mood, and emotional core. I compose initial sketches, then refine themes and orchestrations based on feedback. If it's an interactive score, I design adaptive music layers and transitions to seamlessly react to in-game events.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is optimized for cinematic and interactive composition. I work with a high-performance DAW Logic Pro X, MIDI controller, orchestral libraries, and sound design tools. My main gear includes Kontakt libraries, Spitfire Audio instruments, Soundly effects, and Krotos. I also integrate my work with Unreal Engine 5 and MetaSound for interactive music implementation.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in composing cinematic and interactive music for films, video games, and animated series. My work includes creating orchestral, ambient, and hybrid soundtracks, as well as designing interactive music systems that adapt dynamically to gameplay and storytelling. I also do sound design and technical sound implementation in Unreal Engine 5 using MetaSound and Blueprints, Wwise.
