I'm most experienced with collaborative works as a music producer, songwriter, and musical artist. Based in Minnesota whose works are based solely on and inspired by pop culture, most commonly video games!

This includes working as a music producer, vocal engineer, and mixing engineer for musical artists such as Johnny Gioeli of Crush 40, Bentley Jones, and Caleb Hyles. Work experience also includes instrumental work for YouTuber 'SomecallmeJohnny' and 'TheEmuEmi'. Other examples of artists/projects I've worked on can be found in my credit highlights!

Interview with Victor McKnight

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: I'm most commonly inspired by other multi-genre artists and songwriters. I'm not usually attuned to more popular traditional artists, as they usually stick to one or two genres. If I had to name one, Johnny Gioeli (a collaborator of mine, actually) achieves this approach with grace.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I have no preference. They both serve their qualities in measure of control versus compromise. So as long as you understand the pros and cons of each, you can achieve the result you want.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The opportunities I'm provided I'm not only proud of on a professional level, but excited for on a child-like-whimsy level.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: I'm most commonly mistaken as the vocalist for my own works. I'm vocally disabled, so all my musical works online are usually featuring various vocalists I've reached out to, to help bring my own works to life!

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Give me examples of the kinds of sound you're looking for, and tell me why you love it. I will do my best to match that energy and bring you the best of myself out of it.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started out as a violinist in middle school, evolving into composition via notation, which then carried into my high school years where I took up music production training. I had always wanted to write music for videogames specifically, so I'm happy at the very least I've allowed myself the space to write music inspired by the VGM I grew up listening to.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Learn the rules, then learn to break them. Too many folks skip that first part.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I'm very multi-genre, but have most of my experience in writing rock, pop, and metal. I got my start in classical composition, though!

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Usually, I try to bring an equal measure of quality and life to the song. I feel as though every musical production out there either has or is striving for a balance of high production versus the very small flaws that make it human.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: It's inconsistent in artistic approach, yet consistent in professional approach. Sometimes I'll write a song in building blocks, or other times I'll write an entire song's worth of one or two instruments and build on top of that. There is no incorrect method so as long as it carries artistic integrity.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Production work of various types; instrumental work, songwriting, mixing, mastering, and tuning.
