Interview with OB Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was the voice of a Mercedes Benz (yea, that MB) animated robot for CES 2015!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: An audiobook and a few blog videos with VO and music behind.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Porque no los dos?

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: You'll have a blast working with me!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love being creative!

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: "Can you do this unique thing?" "I don't know, let's try it!"

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That my work is easy! It's simple to me because I've been doing it for awhile, but it's not easy.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: This will vary based on the client. Usually I need to know timeline and budget to establish realistic expectations on what can be done and when.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: The project will be much smoother and move quicker if prep work is done. This includes, but not limited to: vocal warm ups, music writing, instrument tuning, ideation, etc.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My headphones, a mic and cable, SSL interface, laptop with all my software, wifi hotspot

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I've been working in media since I was 10, but my professional career in media production started about 2 years ago. I was working in IT for 15 years before being impacted by corporate layoffs. At that point I pivoted my company to be more media focused.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Comfortable

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: The list is long! Mostly people that I grew up listening to; Steven Curtis Chapman is probably number one right now.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Don't fix it in post! Fix it in production!

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Usually upbeat stuff - think EDM or poppy stuff.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: This will be the most fun you've had making music.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Over 20 years of creating music with people from all over the world!

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I like starting with hearing the client first. This will give me an idea of sound and general of the project, as well as help both of us learn each other. After that, record a bit and see what happens.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Pretty simple - Mac with Logic as my primary DAW. Some good mic options for recording and comfy space to sit and write, create, talk, drink coffee, or cuddle with the studio pup.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Lester Estelle Jr. That man is a BEAST of a drummer. Also, Dirty Loops - the talent and musical savvy these guys have is next level.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Lots of voiceover work and jingle production. Think talking head with a music track behind for depth and energy.
