Interview with Lorena Uría
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I loved to collaborate in several songs of an argentinian band Libélulas because their music is not at all my personal style so I wouldn't have done it by myself.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Music Business: management, music marketing, some singing lessons and I'm daring to busk (wish me luck!)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm here thanks to Alli Cruz. She's an amazing singer and we happened to collaborate in one of my songs.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because it fits in my pocket.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will feel easy and you will love it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Meeting new people, new music and make true connections. That's the power of music!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If I can send it the same day. My answer is: it depends on what you need me to do and if I happen to be available and at home. I will do the best to help you out but I will ask you to help me out too!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't know how to answer this. Maybe, the fact that I can do it pretty quick doesn't mean that I will send it to you asap. I mean, I have a life. If we agree on dates, that's it. Let's be professionals :)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask my clients to brief me about their project and to give me some clear references.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Trust your guts. If you hesitate, maybe that's not what you're looking for.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If it's a desert island I don't think there will be electricity. I will bring my guitar, some extra strings, my capo and a couple of books.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this for more than 10 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a very own way of performing but I can adapt. Let's give it a try!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Anybody that likes to connect with other people. Besides working, we're meeting each other and I believe that the key for a good collaboration are good vibes. Then, professionalism.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For vocal comping, it's more productive to record by small pieces. But well, all depends on the desired result.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Singer-songwriter, pop-rock or jingles/advertising.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Performance and versatility. Also I find myself empathetic to try to understand the needs of my client so everybody feels happy with the final result.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Performance, emotion, accurancy. Whatever the client is asking for. If its YOUR song, I want to give you the best to fit it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First, I ask about the project and it's objectives. Then for references and finally I send different trials to see what is what the client likes most. I can double the voices and add some vocal harmonies if they're the basics. If the client needs a whole vocal arrangement, we will have to talk and agree because that's another job! I love music, hit me!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio that I've been moving around the world. My baby Shure SM27, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. I used to work on Logic Pro but now I'm trying Ableton Live.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: John Mayer, Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Max Martin
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Locution and singing for advertising.
