Issac Davies

Freelance Mix/Record Engineer

Issac Davies on SoundBetter

Mixing & production student at university; looking to work with artists of any genre/background to gain experience, expertise, and additions to my portfolio.

If you’re an up-and-coming artist looking for affordable mixing and production services, I’d love to work with you. I offer dirt-cheap mixing for tracks of all kinds—full releases, demos, or even raw stems prepped for a professional engineer. My goal is to gain as much experience as possible while helping artists who are just starting out.

I work remotely with access to a fully equipped studio, a vast collection of plugins, and high-quality outboard gear. While my sound isn’t at the level I ultimately want it to be, I have solid mixing experience and am currently receiving higher-level education in music production and engineering. I take my work seriously and won’t send a final product until I believe it’s the best I can achieve.

Beyond mixing, I also offer production services, specialising in hip-hop and R&B. If you’re looking to record, I have access to a professional studio with industry-standard microphones in Bridgend, Wales. Recording sessions are available for a small fee, but you’ll need to travel to me.

This industry is tough, and I believe in helping each other out. I’m not looking to make money right now—I just ask for credit if your song gets released. If you’re interested, let’s connect and make something great together!

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Issac Davies

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: My promise is that what you’ll get is the best I can do.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What artists do you like the sound of?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Be patient and respectful. We’re both learning and we both deserve the time to get accustomed to this fast paced industry.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I have been at music school for around 4 years, starting university in 2023.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: My style of mixing is very warm, punchy, but clean.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Finishing what you started. Being too much of a perfectionist doesn’t come in handy within this industry. People just want results.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I’m used to working with hip-hop, r&b, indie, and rock.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Definitely motivation. I strive to make projects sound the best I can possible produce, without giving up until I deliver as promised.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I bring cleanliness to mixes. I care deeply about making sound as clean as possible without sacrificing any of the flair added to the song.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Very standard to be honest. If I’m recording & mixing an artist, I’ll listen to the needs of the artist, ask for reference tracks for songs they like the mix of, and adapt to whatever situation they are in. I will research and use educated thinking to try recreate the sound they are looking for and do long hour sessions recording in the studio, maybe getting them in for additional time for overdubs. When mixing I adopt a digital-analogue mixing workflow, using outboard gear where appropriate, but mostly mixing in-the-box with high-quality plug-ins.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: Audient 8024 Mixing Desk 4x API 512c 2x Neve 88RLB 1x Bluey 1176 1x Blacky 1176 1x LA-2A 2x dBx 160A Plus a plethora of microphones & plugins.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Usually recording, mixing & producing.
