Interview with Steve Kroeger
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on my artists projects Steve Kroeger, Skye Holland, and the newly formed Melodic House project OŽN.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for flexibility and speed. Modern tools make it possible to achieve incredible results while keeping the creative flow moving.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My goal is always to treat every project with care and deliver a production that truly supports the artist’s vision while pushing the boundaries creatively.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping artists turn their ideas into something they’re proud to release.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: A common question is whether I can work from a rough demo or voice memo. The answer is yes, some of the best productions start from the simplest ideas.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That production is just about sounds and plugins. A big part of the job is actually storytelling and helping shape the emotional journey of the track.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the vision for the song? Are there reference tracks you love? How much creative freedom do I have?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who understands the emotional direction of your music. Technical skill matters, but the best collaborations happen when the producer really connects with the vision of the song.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing music for 17+ years and gradually built a career through releasing music, collaborating with artists, and working on productions across the electronic and pop space.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Atmospheric, melodic, and emotionally driven electronic production with a strong focus on songwriting.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on the emotion of the song first. Great production supports the feeling of a track, it shouldn’t distract from it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly electronic and pop-leaning music—tropical house, chill house, melodic electronic, and other emotional electronic styles that blend strong songwriting with modern production.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a sense of atmosphere and emotion. My goal is always to create a production that elevates the feeling of the song while still keeping it modern and sonically competitive.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually it starts with the song and the emotion behind it. I’ll listen to the demo or vocal and figure out the direction that best supports the artist’s vision. From there I build the production, refine the arrangement, and move into mixing to make sure everything feels cohesive and impactful.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m really inspired by artists and producers who combine strong songwriting with electronic production. People who blur the lines between dance music and emotional songwriting have always influenced me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work involves producing, mixing, and finishing electronic-leaning records for artists who want a polished, emotional sound. I often help take a song from a simple demo or vocal idea and turn it into a fully realized production with strong arrangement, sound design, and radio-ready mixing.
