Interview with Will Power
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on my 3rd EP, while also creating and keeping songs in a vault for later releases. My debut album will have only the best of the best songs I kept unreleased.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to meticulously listen and hear the client, and deliver a track that contains catchy melodies, harmonies, ad libs and vocals that they'll instantly fall in love with and want to listen to over and over and over and over and over and over again!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Collaborating with other artists and producers. Being able to create art that could potentially save a life, inspire somebody and stand the test of time. When I'm done with the main vocals, doing the ad libs is probably one of the best, most fun parts! Great ad libs can take a B+ song to an A+.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What is your turnaround time. My answer is usually 24 hours or less.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Music and Acting have been the path since about 2004.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as classically trained, with a deep sense of melody, harmony and songwriting. The gift can seamlessly shift from genre to genre and it loves to work with other people's gifts.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Stevie Wonder, one of our last living legends and I have written Stevie Wonder tribute songs that I'd love to record with him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on R&B, Pop & Hip-Hop. However, my vault of unreleased music contains Rock, Gospel, Jazz, EDM and even some Country. The melodies that come to me in my head aren't limited to a genre. I might hear a R&B song today, a Hip-Hop song tomorrow and a Rock song the next. I don't push it or pull it, it just comes and I follow it's lead.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Coming up with melodies, catchy melodies - or hooks. I believe they call that Toplining? Lol.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I come up with unique and distinct melodic ideas to the song, adding soul and emotion, while also staying current and catchy. After I finish the songwriting, I come up with my own background vocals, ad libs and harmonies during the recording process. I treat the artist's song as if it were my own.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to have a good detailed conversation with the artist and see what they need. After I receive their track, I go to the studio and the rest is history.
