Interview with Rita Almusa
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've written, recorded and co-produced two of my own independent albums, both of which were such a great experience. I learned, grew, and expanded as an artist through actual artistry, rather than theory, training, academia etc. As an artist it's great to look back on those projects and see how far one has grown.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm writing and arranging my own songs for an upcoming independent album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm new here. Hoping to meet/connect with others soon!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog is it's own vibe. It's warm, rich, classic, but I do feel with digital these days, there are many ways to get there, it just depends on the budget, and style preference really.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: As much as they want a wonderful production, as do I. I put my all into my work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I feel like it is my purpose. It is pure joy to create.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Where do you find your inspiration?" I get to a meditative state, and the lyrics and music tend to write itself. It just flows.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It is not possible to shoehorn an artist/singer/vocalist into what you "think" it should be. The best production comes from a magic place, not a forced place typically driven by copycatting similar artists.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What previous experiences have you enjoyed? What previous experiences went wrong and why? What are you expectations on this project? What would make you consider this collaboration a success in your mind?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be very detailed in your expectations, understand that an artist will add the magic in their own way if is is allowed.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: piano, macbook, neumann U87, Neve 1073, and Kaotica eyeball.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been songwriting since I could speak. I've taken vocal lessons from world famous vocal coaches since 7th grade-on. I taught myself to play the piano as a child, and later took piano basics to understand chords etc. I've written, recorded and produced two independent albums, performed live for thousands. Recorded multiple award winning, top hits for Konami's Dance Dance Revolution, Travelled the world, and now looking to make my music my main path!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful, strong, unique, raw talent, filled with passion.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Teddy Swims is high on my list right now, so much soul, so authentic and raw talent.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When you think it's perfect, do it 5 more times. Layering and harmonizing is so powerful.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, RnB, Blues, Jazz, RnB.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Entangling the listener into each note. Story telling with my lyrics and vocal performance.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Soul, life, love, passion, and magic. All the above!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After confirming and aligning on expectations, I run thru the first iteration for feedback/changes as necessary. I am an intuitive singer/songwriter/artist and I am open to critique/suggestions to ensure the best possible work.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a homestudio. I use either an AKG c214 Condesor Mic or a Shure SMB7 Dynamic, Scarlette interface and Kaotica Eyeball and I use Mac Logic Pro.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Anything with soul, I have been inspired from artists such as Aretha, Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Alicia Keys, Adele and Christina Aguilera.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am a Topliner, Singer, Songwriter, Lyricist, and Vocalist. I can compose/arrange chords on the piano as well.
