Drummer dedicated to compositional and technical development in pieces of music, performing and recording for various musicians in Sydney Australia.
Ian Joye is a highly committed drummer and musician from Sydney aiming to create a career in Music production and performance. Ian has been playing drums since he was 12 years old, and has been learning music theory and performance on his first instrument, the trumpet since he was 8. He has primarily stuck to drumming as his main instrument, and has developed a unique sense of style over his years in music, having been influenced by drummers such as John Bonham and Neil Peart.
Ian has played for many shows throughout his musical life, having played for a 2 week United States Tour in 2023, as well as various locations in the Greater Sydney area. His style of playing also been highly valued by assessors in the past, having been awarded with Distinction in nationally recognised music examinations and having earned Outstanding results in his Higher School Certificate performances. His extensive knowledge of odd time signatures and use of various orchestral and world percussions in his drumming earned him the title "Neil Peart" from his examiners, separating him from a vast range of drummers.
Ian currently plays gigs and recording sessions for his metal band Mushroom Horizon and has previously worked with a range of other musicians in Sydney, playing jazz festivals and pop gigs. As well as doing recording sessions and live shows, Ian also works as a music teacher.
