Interview with Felipe
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I produced a track for Eclipse Sonar, which was a remix for the artist León Larregui. This track was signed to Universal Music Mexico.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working in a scalable Immersive Audio studio and collaborating with several producers from the Argentine electronic music scene.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog for creative enviroments, and its a crucial part that modelate the decisions we make, only for having a phisical interface. Digital for the carefully selected process and refinement. To finish, order and polish the overall product.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to you is to deliver high-quality, professional work that stays true to your creative vision. I will collaborate closely with you throughout the process, offering transparent communication, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to bringing out the best in your music. Whether it's production, mixing, mastering, or sound design, I will ensure your project sounds exceptional, aligns with your goals, and is delivered on time, with the utmost care and dedication. Your satisfaction and the final result are my top priorities.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I enjoy most about my job is the ability to combine technical skill with creative expression. Every project presents a unique opportunity to explore new sounds, shapes, and emotions, and I get to be a part of crafting something that will resonate with people.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "How long does it take to produce a track?" Answer: The timeline depends on the complexity of the track and the specific services you require. Music production can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, especially if we’re working on multiple revisions. For mixing and mastering, it generally takes about 3-5 days per track, but I always try to make sure we’re on the same page about your expectations and deadlines.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions people have about my work is that music production, mixing, and mastering are just about "fitting sounds together" or "making things louder." In reality, the process is much more nuanced: Music Production – It's not just about putting sounds together. It’s about shaping the entire musical experience: crafting rhythms, designing soundscapes, layering textures, and building emotional depth. I create music that tells a story, moves the listener, and stands out with its own unique character. Mixing – A lot of people think mixing is just about balancing volume levels. But it’s actually about sculpting the sound: carving out space for each element, creating dynamic range, and ensuring that every track has clarity and impact, whether on small speakers or in a massive club system.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the overall vibe or vision for your project? Do you have reference tracks or influences? What’s your timeline and deadline? Do you have any specific sounds or elements you want to incorporate? What is your target audience or intended use for this track?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When hiring a music production provider like myself, there are a few key things to keep in mind to ensure a smooth and successful collaboration: 🔹 Know Your Vision – Before reaching out, take time to clarify your creative vision. Whether you're producing a track, needing a mix, or crafting a soundtrack, having a clear idea of the sound you want will help guide the process. Reference tracks and mood boards can be great tools to communicate the direction. 🔹 Open Communication – Collaboration thrives on good communication. I always encourage clients to be transparent with feedback and share any specific preferences they have regarding sound, style, and emotions. The more we communicate, the better I can bring your vision to life. 🔹 Quality Over Quantity – Focus on quality over speed. Great music production, mixing, and mastering take time. While I understand the importance of deadlines, I always prioritize achieving the best possible result that will serve your music for the long term. 🔹 Trust the Process – With my experience in audio postproduction and music production, I bring technical expertise alongside musical intuition. Trust that I will enhance your project while respecting your artistic vision. 🔹 Be Open to Collaboration – Whether you’re seeking mixing and mastering, ghost production, or soundtrack scoring, let’s work together. I’ll bring my experience and tools to elevate your sound, while keeping the creative process flexible and collaborative. 🔹 Set Clear Expectations – Discuss timelines, revisions, and budget at the start. This ensures both of us are aligned and avoids any misunderstandings during the process. By taking these steps, we can work together to create industry-quality music that’s polished, impactful, and true to your vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: a Roland Tr8s for grooves, Macbook Pro, Antalope Zen Go, elektron digitone for basses, elektron analogue four for melodies.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in music for over 15 years, starting with my drumming background and gradually expanding into various aspects of music production, sound design, mixing, and postproduction. Here’s a brief overview of my journey: Early Years – Drummer & Musician My career began with drumming, which has always been my true passion. Over the years, I honed my skills in rhythm and harmonic analysis, which laid the foundation for everything I do in music today. Diving into Music Production As my interest in music grew, I moved into electronic music production, primarily focusing on techno, indie dance, and melodic techno. I experimented with various synthesizers, drum machines, and digital audio workstations (DAWs) to create my own unique sound.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: As a drummer for 15 years, my productions are rooted in rhythm. I focus on creating deep, evolving grooves that keep the track engaging and dynamic, with intricate percussion and tight drum programming. Overall, my style is all about balance—combining technical precision with emotional depth, and creating music that feels powerful, immersive, and authentic.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Artist I'd Love to Work With: Solomun One artist I’d love to collaborate with is Solomun. His ability to blend melodic, deep, and emotional elements with driving techno grooves is something that truly resonates with my style. I admire how he creates atmospheric soundscapes while maintaining a strong connection to the dancefloor.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Dynamic EQ and Sidechain Compression – Use dynamic EQ to carve out space in the frequency spectrum without altering the natural tone of the element. Particularly in the low-mid range, i apply sidechain compression to make sure the kick has enough punch and the bass doesn’t overpower it. By shaping your low end carefully and giving each element its own space, you’ll end up with a mix that feels tight, powerful, and full without sounding cluttered.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize in electronic music, particularly: 🔹 Techno – Deep, hypnotic grooves with precise sound design and powerful low-end. 🔹 Indie Dance – A fusion of electronic and organic textures, with driving rhythms and atmospheric elements. 🔹 Melodic Techno – Emotional, cinematic soundscapes with evolving harmonies and dynamic arrangements.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My greatest strength is my deep understanding of rhythm, groove, and harmonic balance—a skill honed over 15 years as a drummer and refined through professional music production and postproduction.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I don’t just mix or produce—I elevate a track by adding depth, clarity, and emotion, ensuring it stands out in today’s competitive music scene. 🔹 Signature Sound & Energy – Whether it’s dark, hypnotic techno, groovy Indie Dance, or cinematic soundscapes, I bring a polished, immersive sonic character that enhances the artist’s vision. 🔹 High-End Mixing & Mastering – With Genelec 8340 monitors, a 7370A sub, and premium outboard gear, I create powerful, club-ready mixes with pristine detail, warm analog textures, and dynamic impact. 🔹 Innovative Sound Design – Using Elektron, Roland, Novation, and Arturia synthesizers, I craft unique textures, evolving atmospheres, and rich harmonics that push creative boundaries. 🔹 Professional Postproduction Quality – Years of experience in film & TV mixing (HBO, Cocomelon, Top Chef, Below Deck) mean I know how to clean up, enhance, and refine any sound source to perfection. 🔹 Emotional & Storytelling Depth – Whether producing for a dancefloor banger or a cinematic soundtrack, I ensure every element serves the emotional intent of the music. With a keen ear, top-tier gear, and a deep understanding of electronic music & postproduction, I make every track hit harder, sound cleaner, and feel unforgettable.
