If you’re looking for recordings and productions with soul, depth, and technical excellence, I’m the right person for your project. As a multi-instrumentalist (drums, bass, guitar, and acoustic guitar) and music producer with perfect pitch, I focus on capturing every nuance and detail with the best tuning, the most suitable equipment, and precise techniques tailored to each song.

I believe every song has its own soul, and my mission is to capture that essence with precision and emotion. My approach combines refined technique, artistic sensitivity, and high-end gear to deliver results that truly make a difference.

My studio offers professional recording, mixing, and mastering, always prioritizing the most authentic and impactful sound possible. It also features an analog mixing console—used in both tracking and mixing—along with a selection of vintage and unique microphones. These elements contribute to the warmth, depth, and authentic sonic character that define my work.

Let’s turn your music into something powerful and unforgettable.

Interview with Victor Martins

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I'm especially proud of is Weslei Ribeiro's Catarse EP. It was my first release as an Adah Drums endorsed artist and the very first time I recorded using my own drum kit. I not only played the drums, but also contributed a few guitar parts and co-produced the project with Weslei. In fact, I created most of the riffs that define the EP's distinctive sound.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My own songs are set to be released sometime this year. At the moment, I’m producing and recording two artists simultaneously: Weslei Ribeiro’s upcoming single and EP, as well as new singles for Brendo Azevedo."

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Andrew Scheps, Bryan Cook, Lance Powell, and Kenny Carkeet. Also, Thiago Buist, Vini Baschera, and Igor Willcox—huge fan of these last three, my fellow countrymen.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: If I had to pick just one—analog. Digital lacks the life, depth, and texture that only true analog gear can provide. No A/D converter will ever fully capture that essence. That said, hybrid mixing is the best of both worlds if you can’t afford a full analog setup (or aren’t willing to give up the convenience of a DAW).

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I treat every project as if it were my own, giving it the attention, care, and precision it deserves. When it comes to drum sounds, I make sure they are always top-notch—it's simply non-negotiable. My goal is to deliver recordings that not only meet expectations but surpass them, capturing the essence of the music with clarity, depth, and emotion. From the first note to the final mix, I’m fully committed to making the song sound as good as it possibly can.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Bringing a song to life—paying attention to every detail, shaping sounds, and carefully selecting the right tools—can be incredibly fun. But what I love most about what I do is the sense of mission accomplished when I listen to a raw recording and it already sounds close to the reference (sometimes even surpassing my own expectations) I had in mind. It’s a joy that words can’t fully capture. I feel truly blessed to achieve such results, and I’m deeply grateful to God for the progress I’ve made in the past years.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Clients often ask me: ‘Can you match a specific drum sound?’ My answer: Absolutely. I analyze the reference track and adjust tuning, mic placement, and playing technique accordingly. Another common question is: ‘Do you edit or quantize the drums?’ My approach is to deliver the most natural and musical performance possible, only making adjustments when necessary. I record listening to the tempo subdivisions on the metronome,it helps me a lot on staying on the grid.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Many people think that having great gear is enough to achieve a great sound. While high-quality equipment helps, what truly makes the difference is the musician’s experience, technique, and ability to serve the song. Most drummers don’t even know how to properly tune their drums and rely on mixing to fix their sound—but that’s not always possible. I focus on capturing the best performance possible AT THE SOURCE, ensuring that every note, nuance, and dynamic feels intentional and authentic. Most importantly, it MUST SOUND RIGHT from the very beginning.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What’s your timeline for the project? What results do you expect from my recordings? Do you have any specific preferences for snare sound or tuning? Would you like me to stay in the pocket, or do you prefer a more expressive approach? Are there any particular influences or sonic references you’d like me to consider? Do you have any technical notes regarding tempo, key, or arrangement details? Also, what feeling or message do you want the song to convey? The more I understand your vision, the better I can shape the performance and sound to serve the music in the best possible way.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Choose someone who not only has the technical skills and experience but also a deep passion for music and a strong attention to detail. It’s important to work with someone truly committed to delivering the highest quality, from the first note to the final mix. I treat every project as if it were my own, ensuring that the song’s message gets the support it needs and deserves.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I'd die out of boredom. Recording drums takes more than 5 pieces of gear.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been involved in music for a long time, but it wasn’t until 2018 that I started pursuing it as a full-time career. Music has always been my passion and a true gift from God. I’ve been playing drums since I was 2 and started playing guitar at 11. My first music production project was in 2013, when I recorded and arranged all the instruments for a 10-song album. Unfortunately, it was never released by the artist, but one of those songs was mine, and I plan to re-record and release it in 2025.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I'm authentic and precise. Crazy drumfills mixing gospel chops and Bonham-style. I know,it's nuts.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Any of those I listen to would make me pretty happy,but I have a few names on the list. The Boy That Got Away,Brandon Lake,Tauren Wells,Eli Soares,Brooke Ligertwood,Colony House,Thalles Roberto,Caleb Gordon,Cory Asbury,Daniela Araújo,The Digital Age,Foo Fighters,half-alive,The New Regime,MORADA... The list goes on.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Do everything as if it’s the only chance you'll ever get. Play as if there's no editing, record as if there's no mixing, mic the drums as if theres no tools, mix as if there's no mastering.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: As a professional musician in Brazil, you GOTTA know how to play everything. Fortunately, I have experience working across many genres, and I’m comfortable tackling whatever comes my way. While I am a huge fan of American rock bands, I have particular expertise in Brazil’s most popular rhythms, and I really enjoy bringing my skills to a wide range of musical projects.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Perfect pitch. No doubt, it’s the most valuable asset I have. It plays a crucial role in everything I do, from finding the fundamental note of anything—whether it’s a musical instrument or not—to tuning/editing vocals, cleaning up drums when needed (mainly snares). I also tune the drums to specific intervals that match the song, etc.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: My own sound palette is a blend of technique, intuition, and almost three decades of musical experience. I don’t prioritize expensive gear for its own sake (neither I have that much money to spend); I’m focused on what fits the music. The goal is to choose the right tools and sounds that best serve the song’s identity. For me, it’s about how each element contributes to the track’s emotional impact. Ultimately, it’s about respecting and enhancing the vibe of the entire project.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It usually starts with receiving the music files I’ll be working on. I then create and organize a new session (Logic Pro X project) with the provided files. I listen to the track(s) at least twice, and I like to record some vocal cues to guide me through the song while recording. After laying down the cues, I proceed to record the drums. Once the drum take is complete, I return to the console to listen to the recording and check if the take went as I wanted.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is designed to capture the most authentic and detailed sound possible. I work with an analog mixing console for both tracking and mixing, ensuring the needed warmth and depth in every recording. I also use a selection of vintage and unique microphones to achieve a rich, organic character. The goal is always the same: delivering a powerful, natural, and emotionally impactful sound.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm a huge fan of Ilan Rubin,as I see myself musically represented by him. He's an all-around musician and plays everything so good that I could listen to his discography countless times per day. I also like Eric Valentine and Tim Palmer A LOT.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I provide high-quality drum recordings, full music production, mixing, and mastering—always with a focus on authenticity and sonic excellence. Using an analog mixing console, advanced recording techniques, vintage microphones, and proper tuning, I ensure that every track sounds alive and emotionally powerful. Whether you need drums that truly fit your song, a mix that enhances every detail, or a full production that captures your artistic vision, I’m here to bring your music to life.
