Interview with xdonny
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The project I loved working on was a song from a Lithuanian up and coming artist Praba, called "Greitai". My role was to flip and 'spice' the existing melody which I did so by making it sound more ambient and experimental - reversed synths, effects etc. A year later it ended up getting noticed by the artist and he made a song on it.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m focused on refining my melody-making skills and continuing to push my creativity. I’m also actively working on securing more placements and collaborating with artists to expand my reach and further establish myself in the industry.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At this time, I don’t have any specific recommendations, as I prefer to focus on providing the best service I can for my clients. However, I always encourage artists to explore and find the right fit for their needs based on their unique vision and style.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: So far I'm full on digital because I don't own any analog gear yet, but I'm really interested in the sound difference.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to always meet their expectations, no matter how many revisions it takes. I’m committed to working closely with them to ensure the final product is exactly what they envisioned.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like experimenting and trying something different, so if my client wants something unusual I'm always down for it!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers often ask how long it will take to receive their work or if I can provide examples of my previous projects. I typically let them know that they can expect a demo within 1-2 days. To help them get a better sense of my style, I also share a curated playlist featuring some of my mixes and custom beats. This gives them a clear idea of the quality and range of work I offer.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions is that artists often think I only make beats. In reality, I’m skilled in both mixing and mastering as well.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: "Do you have a timeline or deadline in mind?" and "What are your main goals or priorities for this project?"
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I advise the customer to know exactly what he wants and to look for a provider that fits their needs.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A laptop, interface, headphones and a set of speakers.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My journey in music production began with a simple goal: to get good at it, have fun, and start sharing my work with other artists. That initial approach paid off when I made my first beat licensing sales, which was a huge turning point for me. It made me realize that I could turn my passion into a career, and that motivated me to push myself further and improve my craft. Now, five years later, I’m still learning, growing, and loving every step of the process.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a blend of industry trap with raw, underground influences. While I’m versatile and can adapt to almost any style, I always bring my own unique touch to every track. Whether it’s a distinct melody layer or a carefully chosen drum selection, I infuse each beat with something that stands out, giving it that signature ‘spice’ that makes it feel fresh and original.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Future one day because he’s one of the key pioneers of Atlanta trap music. His influence on the genre is undeniable, and I admire how he’s consistently pushed boundaries with his sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overthink your performance and go with the flow. The best music comes out when you're having fun :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Hip-Hop, Trap beats.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to cook up a beat from scratch without hesitation. I thrive on creating custom beats tailored specifically for each artist’s style and vision. Whether it’s starting from a simple idea or building something entirely unique, I’m able to dive right into the creative process and produce high-quality beats that capture the essence of what the artist wants.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique combination of melodic vibes and hard-hitting drums to every song. My melody-making skills allow me to create captivating, emotion-driven tunes that set the tone, while my signature drum patterns add the energy and punch that listeners can’t ignore. This balance between melody and rhythm helps me craft tracks that stand out and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process begins with understanding the artist’s vision and what they want to achieve with their music. I take the time to communicate with the client, ensuring I fully grasp their creative direction and goals. From there, I dive into the process of crafting a custom beat or mixing and mastering their song with care and attention to detail. Collaboration is key, so I offer multiple revisions to fine-tune the track and make adjustments based on the client’s feedback. My goal is to ensure the final product perfectly aligns with their expectations and artistic vision.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is centered around delivering high-quality sound. I rely on a pair of DT 990 PRO open-back headphones for mixing and mastering and cooking up, as they provide exceptional clarity and allow me to hear every detail in the music. The DAW I use is FL Studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm deeply inspired by producers like Pi’erre Bourne, Metro Boomin, and the Internet Money collective. Their innovative sounds and ability to shape the direction of modern music are what motivated me to start making music in the first place. I admire how they push creative boundaries, elevate the artists they work with, and consistently create music that resonates globally
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common service I provide for my clients is creating custom beats. This process starts with a client sharing their vision or idea, whether it’s a specific vibe, genre, or mood they want to capture. From there, I bring that concept to life by crafting a beat tailored to their needs. Collaboration is key—I always offer multiple revisions to ensure the artist is fully satisfied with the final product. My goal is to make their creative vision a reality while delivering high-quality music they can feel proud of.
